Karen's Story

Karen is from Shawano, Wisconsin Karen's schools include Bay View High School, New Road Elementary School. Graduated in June '65. Aug 65 moved to Mpls, MN & in Nov 65, married Joe Visocky in Mason, WI. In March 66 we moved back to WI & in Oct our son was born in Ashland. In Aug 67 we moved to Milwaukee. Aug 73 we moved to Knoxville TN. In Sept 75 we built a house in Seymour TN where we lived until Nov 1980 when we moved to Morgantown (Indianapolis) IN. We developed a "mini-farm" there with Registered Dairy Goats, geese, ducks, chickens & rabbits. In 1984 we moved our "mini-farm" to the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains in Sharps Chapel, TN. There we lived in a 150 yr old log cabin on top of Katy Myers Ridge for 6 yrs. On Dec 23, 1988 I totaled a GMC S15 pickup into a 15" diameter cedar tree, sideways into the drivers door. After 2 weeks in UT Hospital in Knoxville I came home. Unable to do the chores I had been doing on a daily basis, our "farming " days came to an end when Joe was called by Everbrite, & accepted the offer to return to their employ in July 1989. So back to WI. We lived in Racine until 2003. On Sept 10, 2001, ( yes, the day before. 9/11) Everbrite 'down-sized' eliminating Joe's job of Engineering Manager. I was with a friend on vacation in Washington DC. (That was an exciting several days, least of which was getting out of DC & getting back home. We had been staying at the Sheraton National, about 6 blocks from the Pentagon.) After 15 months of unemployment, sending out hundreds of Resumes, Joe (at 60 yrs) went to Schneider's Truck Driving school & a new phase of our lives began. We lost our house, sold our Harley's & ended up moving to Shawano, WI where Joe drove an 18-wheeler until he retired in May 201...Expand for more
2. Here we have a small double wide home on 1 acre of wooded land. We are both semi-disabled & spend a good part of our time keeping our wood stove fired up to keep us warm. We appreciate the woods as it helps supply us with that firewood since the woods is 90% white Oak which is dying from 'oak wilt'. We suppliment buying some logs from time to time. There is still several years of 'oak's ' to be harvested from our land so should supply us for as long as we will need. What was a varied & sometimes an exciting life has settled down to a very quiet retirement. We do attend our church, Gillett Baptist Church in Gillett WI , spend some time with our wonderful neighbors Dale & Julie & several Amish friends, now our family. Our son Sean & his wife Nanc live in Greenleaf, about 1 hour from us. Over the past 56+ years we have had 40+ dogs & 50+ cats in our lives as well as all the critters from 12 years of mini-farming. In 2022 we are down to 1 dog, Katie a Boston Terror (Terrier) & 2 Tortoise-shell cats, Diamond & Cali. Quite a change from the 12 resident cats & 8 resident dogs in Sharps Chapel. I miss them all. Now we look forward to our Church time & time spent with family & friends. Next big thing will be Heaven where we will spend eternity serving & praising our Lord, Jesus Christ. If you don't know Him as your Savior & Lord, we encourage you to get to know Him. It's the best & most important thing you can do. Eternity is gong to be a LONG time! We really want to be able to see you there! John 3: 16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him, will not perish but will have everlasting life! " Don't put off what you can do today: we don't know if we have tomorrow!
