Karin's Story

Hi, my name is Karin Dillman. I graduated from Bloomington South High School in Bloomington, Indiana in 1982. After high school, I had a son who is the pride and joy of my life TJ. I began a career trying a new thing called karaoke in 1989. In 1996, at a show I was doing in town, I was blessed enough to meet someone who taught me everything about music that he could. Tommy had been the house band for 13 years at the Gaslight after touring with David Allen Coe, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and more. He wrote a song called Sing a Song on the album The Adventures of Johnny Cash that earned him independent songwriter of the year, as well as a BMI nomination. Being a friend of Steve Kinsers, Tommy wrote, and coined the phrase "King of the Outlaws" for Steve. They still play the track today when Steve goes around...he also wrote "Most wanted outlaw in the land" for Bob Kinser, Steve's dad. Tommy grew up with Carl Perkins' kids in Memphis, where their daddies met, and formed a band. Edd Cisco (Tommy's daddy) would play with Carl Perkins for several years, and is on several recordings on Carl Perkins albums made at Sun Records when Carl recorded songs during the time JJ, Carls brother was in the hospital after a massive car wreck. Edd, Tommy's dad went on to DJ in Tennessee for many years, and is in the Nashville DJ hall of fame museum. In 1996, I married Tommy Cisco, after having a passion for singing my whole life (no thanks to Mr. Inscoe who literally told me to find something else to do) lol I managed to sing for my supper for 20 plus years, opening for Carl Perkins in September 1996 in Huntingdon, Tenn. at the Carroll County Civic Center for a ...Expand for more
benefit to raise money for the Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center. That night via the Mayor, we were given the key to McKenzie, TN. Since then I have been blessed enough to make a life out of singing, sponsoring kids for years in the Monroe County Fair talent show, as well as the Fall Festival. As with anything in life, all good things must come to an end. Tommy found out he had throat cancer after years of hard music life, and smoking several packs a day. Sadly, he passed a few years ago, and it just hasn't been the same since. In 2017, I went to Jackson, TN where Tommy was inducted posthumously in to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. I also found out I am ill, and since have retired from music all together. These days, staying well and fighting this war inside me is what I focus on mostly. The single life sure is quiet! lol I thank the good lord above that I was able to do something that I loved for so many years, and was touched by so many, while being able to be a positive influence for my "kids". Never ever put your dreams aside. I praise God that I was able to do it all, from meeting legends, to being a part of some wonderful occasions, and experiencing things that I never thought possible. Some of the kids I had singing when I first started have now had babies of their own, I have been there for the proms, the dances, played their receptions, and now have met their babies...It has been a blessing to see it all come full circle. Life is a lot slower, but it sure is nice to just sit and listen to the music in my memories, and remember how we set the world on fire once upon a time....CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS. THEY EXPLAIN IT BETTER THAN I CAN. LOL
