Karin's Story

Life Hope everyone has been having a great time in this game called life. It has been interesting! First time married to Blaine Burger for eight years, two wonderful children-Tiffani and Brandon. I was on Search and Rescue for a while and met my second husband Jim Ederer and had a daughter Chelsea. Chelsea, and Brandon are out of the house now. Chelsea is now living in Summerland and graduated from City College with her CAD certificate and AA Degree. She now works for an engineering firm in Santa Barbara. She also owns her own business and works at doing CAD for the Montecito fire dept. She is a very hard worker and very focused. Brandon is in Construction and doing plumbing construction in Huntington Beach. He loves it there. He is also learning to play the drums and helps set up shows at the comedy club and other venues. Tiffani was lost for about 10 months, we finally found her in Detroit! She knows no one there, thought she was married to Eminem. She is Schizoprenic and now on meds. She has been back about a year now and is doing alot better. It was a real rough road for a while and probably will be at least a little bit with her for always. She lives with us in Sisquoc. In May of 2001, I married Joe Cushaway. They say three is a charm! I gained another daughter, Samantha. She is on her own (living with her Russian boyfriend in Hollywood) and works at a salon after graduating from Beauty College. She loves L.A. We are now happily living in the great town of Sisquoc. I love being in the country--so peaceful!! I graduated from Hancock College. I have gotten my degrees in Early Childhood Development and Liberal Arts, yet work as a Baker at Jack's Restaurant and Bakery. I'm the Bakery part!!! I really Love this job, I can be creative and get paid for it at the same time! I am so spoiled with my job! On May 4, 2009 the restaurant burned down and it's being re-built, I have been selling my cookies, brownies and pies, etc. from the house. Doing what I can to make some money. I have also sold some things on Craigslist and at craft faires when I can. I enjoy doing canning, too, so I made some jams, jellies and pickles this year. My favorite is the Jalapeno Jam. I sell them too. I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my family. Isn't that what life is really about? We enjoy Nascar, Camping, BBQ, Gardening and working on this old house. This year we went to Yosemite, again. Love to camp there, so much to do! I enjoy taking my camera and riding my bike around the park, looking for those beautiful pics! I finally joined the Yosemite Association. Yosemite is my favorite place in the world! It is sooo beautiful! I have also gotten into growing orchids, they are so pretty and not as hard as people think. It's alot of fun getting them to bloom! Plants are alot like children, they love the attention and thrive when well taken care of. I still collect Coca Cola. I am also trying to find my Native American roots and working a little on geneology. Joe and I were married in a Native American ceremony and it was very interesting. We go to Pow-Wows and enjoy finding different artifacts. I keep up with doing some crafts when I can. I have been making my own jewelry and suncatchers. I sell them whenever I get the opportunity. I also learned to knit in jury duty, so I made each of the kids a blanket for Christmas. I have made so many I now have spares, so I sold them at craft faires. I like to do scrapbooking, too. Lots of fun putting together all the old photos and finally getting them organized! Joe likes to work on small engines, ...Expand for more
building and repairing lawn mowers, edgers, etc. He has been working a lot of overtime lately. So much so that I have to beg him to try and get a day off to do anything. We inherited Chelsea's part chocolate lab, part pit. He is a wonderful dog! Yet, if we had known he had pit in him we would never have let her keep him! I have a Border Collie, she is beautiful, with 1/2 black and 1/2 white face, Patch. I now have a full blooded Red nose Pitt that I rescued/inherited. His name is Gus and He is so much fun. Like my baby. I love to socialize him and let people know how wonderful they can be. He is SPOILED! I got him from a girl that used to come into the Sisquoc Store when I worked there. Her boyfriend did not want him and he was very sick. One day she brouht him in and he could not even stand up, kept falling over. But I persisted, fed him every 15 to 20 minutes, took him home that nite and never gave him back. I take him on charity walks, Halloween events, to see Santa and almost every where I go. He is a real joy in our lives. I have 4 Bettas and a box turtle. We both enjoy our 3 cats,(just this Christmas eve found a Himalayan that had been abandoned, she is precious). I have been doing a lot of wine tasting, we have so many nice wineries around here. It's a lot of fun learning about them and tasting all the different varieties. Seems like there is always some type of event going on around here. This next year we will be fixing up Joes parents house and renting it out. Looks like we have our work cut out for us, the house was built in 1959 and will need some remodeling but it's in pretty fair condition for all those years. Good thing I have a plumber and a heating guy in the family......and they have friends to help with the rest. We are always busy, but enjoy life too! This pandemic has been crazy! Been quarantined for over a year. At least I have my dogs. They’re great company and keep me busy. I’m now raising and breeding Irish Setters. They’re so kind, loving and gentle. Joe passed in November of 2017 of lieomyosarcoma cancer. Then my sister a year later due to a horrible motorcycle accident. I now have two wonderful grandchildren, Silas and Poppy. We have lots of fun together. Now that we are vaccinated we can get together more. They helped me to plant a very nice garden this year. All in raised beds, an old wagon, an old shell barrow or pots so the gophers won’t take it down. I have two chickens and a cat. Still loving the country life! Looking forward to a vacay at Yosemite this summer! With most of the family except Tiffani. She’s on her own now, doing okay. It’s difficult being around here and it’s sad the illness has taken her from us. I do what I can with her. Running errands or going to lunch sometimes. She has a sweet soul. Just runs with all the wrong people. Nuff said! Brandon moved back to Santa Maria/Orcutt. Still doing construction plumbing and works with his cousin. He inherited his dads rat rod and loves riding his Harley. He and Chelsea love going on hikes. Chelsea and her husband John are doing the John Muir Trail this summer. So the grands will stay between there Nanas in Santa Barbara and at my house.. They live in Goleta now and Chelsea is still working at the engineering firm. Her husband works at the preschool where his mom is the director. He helps the older children with their homework and zooming for their classes. During the summer he helps with the field trips. He also does filming when he’s needed. The pandemic changed a lot for him. I love my little family and doing things together.

Painted at Chelsea and Johns this morning, then was banned to watch Silas when he woke up from his nap. Turns out I don't tape well enough, it bled through and it was dark paint. Argh!!! But I do know how to take care of ch
