Karla's Story
Life
Thankfully, my self-destructive/self-medicating period ended in 1978. Trying to heal that damaged inner-child is a good thing and with the love and support of an amazingly, understanding spouse, it's a thing within reach. Teri Meyer's parents played cupid and before I could blink, Norm and I, fell deeply and solidly in love and were married in 1978. We lived in Kalama for nearly two years. We packed up ourselves, our 6 month old, Lisa, and moved to Tillamook, Oregon, when Norm changed jobs. We rusted there for about 3 years. Then we packed up the 3 of us and our 6 month old, Sara, and moved to Roseburg, Oregon. All four of us thrived in sunny Roseburg. :>) It was a great place for the girls to grow for those formative 6 years. Ever since Sara turned 4, I've been working as a kindergarten assistant. First in Roseburg and now in Salem. I love working with 5 year olds. They're open, honest, curious and ready to learn. Since 1994, I've been teaching the kindergartners science lessons once a week. My program's evolved over the years and I've made my goal not so much to teach, but to ignite their curiosity in the world around them. In my spare time I spend waaay too many hours on the computer or reading or walking.
I was so close to attending the class reunion in Kalama July 2006. So very close . . . especially after the sweet phone call from Mansy, but all it took was having an email to a fellow classmate go unanswered and I chickened out. A wee, sinister voice in the back of my head, said that 'perhaps the email wasn't answered because that classmate has no wish to have anything to do with me'. And so, being the anxious chicken I am, I stayed away.
It looks like you all had a great time. Thanks for the mailing with the photos, Eddie. They're much appreciated.
