Karla's Story
I graduated with a BS in biochemistry and a BA in chemistry from NC State University. I used my degrees in research for 7 years. Then I took a hybrid technical/customer service job for 4 years. Now I work for Underwriters Laboratories (UL) as an Engineering Associate (I provide project plans and technical assistance to clients). I am happily married (16 years as of May 2008) with an 11 year old daughter who is into competitive figure skating. My hobbies are playing piano and scrapbooking. diagnosed with Breast Cancer (Early Stage 1). No family history or anything so it hit me out of the blue. I am now a 1 year survivor and doing very well. Life is getting back to normal after surgery and Chemotherapy (I lost all of my hair and gained a lot of weight). For all of my friends and their loved ones, I urge you to have a mamogram. We're approaching that 40 year mark when it becomes critical. Unfortunately, it can happen to anyone. I am looking forward to the 20 year reunion and seeing everyone again!!
