Katherine's Story

I graduated from Cal in 1962 with a major in history. While there, I was on the Daily Cal and the short lived Independent Cal. Go Bears!!! I got a degree in Library Science from USC where I met my former husband. We moved to Albuquerque NM where he got his PhD. and I was a librarian at UNM. We moved to Calexico in 1969 where he taught history and I was the librarian at the Imperial Valley Campus of SDSU. We were divorced and later I moved to San Diego to get a counseling degree from SDSU. I am presently semi-retired and work as an EOPS counselor at Miramar College, a community college. (1968). In the late 90's I did two walking tours in the UK; one in the Cotswolds and one in the borders region of Scotland. I live in the Kensington area of San Diego, an area that is reminiscent of old California with its Spanish stucco and craftsman style houses. I have a plot in a community garden where I grow vegetables and work the soil. I hang out at Twiggs, a local coffee house where people of all kinds congregate. The area of San Diego south of I-8 has several distinct neighborhoods, all dating back to the early 1900's and late 1800's. It is walker friendly and has a very diverse population age-wise and ethnically. I like this fact. There is room for everyone.
