Kathleen's Story

Life I have kids, cats, the house in the suburbs, the whole nine yards, woo-ha. I live in Washington, (suburban Seattle, not D.C.) I've had two husbands, The first died of leukemia after 14 years of marriage, the second I've been married to for 14 years now, and the old coot better not croak! After high school, I worked on a farm in North Dakota learning to operate heavy equipment (every summer for six years!) Saved my summer money to fund my college tuition. I graduated from A.S.U. (took 6 and a half years to do it!) (hey I had to work my way through, mommy and daddy weren't forking out any cash, the cheapskates), Got married, taught middle-school kids in Bowie AZ science, math, and reading for awhile, moved to Florida, did the whole beach thing for a while, (that was fun, I loved the Keys and the Islands) Travelled around a bit, partied, had fun. Moved back to AZ because husband #1 had been diagnosed w/cancer by then and the doctor said dry climates were healthier than humid ones. We already owned 40 acres of land in AZ that we were speculating on, decided to move there and build. I got to design my own house (I'd taken a little drafting in college, so I felt up to the challenge) While I was building my house, (yes, I built it myself with the help of two guys, my brother-in-law who is a licenced contractor, and made sure everything was built to code, and a local man I hired as a laborer). It took one whole year. My bro-in-law had to leave every so often to take on REAL jobs, while I stayed behind with my worker and hung drywall or ran wiring or whatever else needed to be done. I lived in a tent until it snowed (we were at 4000 feet) so I bought an 8X10 shed and lived in it, while I worked on the house. When the shell of the house was complete, we moved in and three weeks later my husband died. That was a bad time. 38 years old, no husband, no cabinets, no appliances, no air conditioning, no flooring, no furniture, no feelings, no nothing! I got over it. Eventually I remarried, and just before my 40th birthday, I had a kid. That was a big surprise, since my tubes were tied! (I was in denial for the first three months, convinced it was the flu)(Hey, I couldn't possibly be pregnant, my tubes were tied right? Pl...Expand for more
us, we used condoms!) Show this to your teenaged know-it-all girls who think they can't get pregnant. They CAN! I have a stepson, but I am his mom even though I'm not his biological mom, because I've had him since he was only 12 years old. That makes him mine. Kid #1 (Nick) is now 27 years old, graduated college. He's a computer engineer, and he does the electronics for the black boxes in aircraft. (Don't worry, he's a very smart boy, he graduated in the top 94% of his class, was on the dean's list all through college, your aircraft are in good hands). He lives in Tucson with his girlfriend and my grandbaby. (A boy, Shane, 4 years old) Kid #2 (Tate) (the surprise baby) is now 14 years old, he has competed in figure skating in Junior Nationals, and is going back again this year. (He can land some triple jumps so far) His goal is to compete in the 2018 Olympics. (Are those the winter ones?) He will go to college too, just in case his plan #1 doesn't work out. Fortunately, he's smart like his brother. (He has been making $20/hour since he was 13 coaching tots in skating-pretty good for a kid!) So now I live in Washington, doing the suburban mom thing, I'm glad I did the travelling, partying thing when I was young, because I enjoy doing the mom/grandma thing now that I'm old. Jeez, can you believe it, FIFTY-FOUR years old? What an old COOT! I've been in flash floods, earthquakes, forest fires, blizzards, tornadoes, and hurricanes. I haven't been in a volcano yet, but Mt. Ranier was making rumbling noises last month, and it's not far from my house! Any of my old friends want to contact me my email address is (now here it gets a little tricky 'cause classmates won't let me tell you) but follow closely:the first word of my address is mamakas the second part is the "at" symbol the rest is com and then cast, then dot and then net. Got it? mamakas at com cast dot net now write it like an email address and you're in. Heh heh. And they tell me I could ramble on for 15000 more characters. I could, too, but I won't. I figure if you're reading this far you must really be one of my old friends or maybe an old student-so send me a line-you got the address! Don't bother if you're already dead. Figuratively or literally.
