Kathleen's Story
Update: I'm starting an online magazine of autobiographical writing, Creek Road Gang. They don't allow links, but if you google it, you could find it.
First issue will be up September 2009, but submission guidelines and thoughts from the editor are up and running now. Hope you'll check it out.
Life: the old stuff
A year after college at Clark (undergraduate major: history),I moved to PA, where I've lived ever since, except for 2 years in Otisville, NY (for husband's job). Went to grad school at Penn (counseling psychology) and worked as a psychologist for 8 years, mostly in a residential treatment center with teenagers. Married in 1986, and stopped working in 1987 a month before the birth of our daughter. Our son was born in 1989. We have homeschooled them, and it was a really interesting experience. Like most things, it had good points and bad points, but overall it worked for us. Daughter's a psych major at Lebanaon Valley College. Son is a history major at Gettysburg College. We have 2 sweet black and white cats and just got a very cute fluffy little dog. In spare time that I used to have, I wrote a comic mystery novel (unpublished). I continue to write I teach psychology part-time at a local community college, which I am really enjoying a lot. I love the students, really like having multi-age students in m...Expand for more

We moved too often for a few years, but have settled down in a house in a semi-rural area. If we ever move again, they'll have to carry me out, and if I'm still alive, I'll be kicking and screaming. We can buy eggs from local henhouse owners, and we regularly see cows, horses, and Amish buggies frequently.
Husband works in trusts and estates. His true love (other than the dog, me and the kids) is classical music, although he's developed a taste for country -- me too. The kids prefer heavy metal these days, the heavier the better. Sullivan. (My husband and I sometimes serve in the chorus of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta performed annually by a local group, which means that after all these years I became a chorus girl.)We visit family in Mass. every year, and have taken to spending a week midcoast in Maine in the summer.
I sometimes miss the freedom of having the ocean right up the street. I miss the sound of the waves, and the way each wave at high tide resounded in our house. In the summer during our week in Maine, I enjoy that again. But I love the woods, the sounds of the birds, and the farmland and fields of where I now live. I wish that our kids had enjoyed the freedom of walking everywhere themselves in a little town, as I once did, but they'll have their own adventures. So it all works out.
