Kathleen's Story
Dear friends:
I began my senior year in the Fall of 1975. I graduated early in February 1976 because my Navy dad was transferred to the East coast. Along the way, I decided to spend that spring and summer with my older sister and her family before going on to college where I planned to major in anthropology and archaeology and minor in sociology --or something like that.. While there, I met my future husband. We settled in Northern California and raised four children together. As a single mom, I raised the children from their teen years. They are now grown and have careers and families of their own and I have been blessed with beautiful grandchildren.
Since becoming an empty-nester, I've been able to devote time to exploring the world through activities that bring hope and healing to the poorest of the poor. I never became an anthropologist but throughout my travels I've gotten to satisfy that itch. For inst...Expand for more
ance, I met "Lucy" while I was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In addition to my day job in Silicon Valley, I have volunteered as a hospital chaplain to the critically ill and their families and as a volunteer missions pastor in my local church. I also serve on the board of a faith-based non-prof organization that brings sustainable change to the most difficult regions in the world...
To future grads, should you happen to read this, life is shorter than you think, make the very best of it, life isn’t always about you, look for the good in yourself and in others, and make something great happen in the world starting right where you are today. You are meant for something great!
Some years ago I attended a class reunion in San Diego and took my oldest daughter with me. She thought it was a hoot. I thought it would be worth it to go at least one time to say I did it!
