Kathleen's Story
Life
Not sure whether to be proud or embarrassed that I have been in municipal public service for nearly 28 years. Been a municipal engineer in roads and traffic since 1981. I have done a lot of stuff over those years, but am proudest of my design and construction work on roads, sewers, bridges and watermains. Dismantling the east end of the Gardiner Expressway was the most satisfying job of all.
I ranthe City of Tornto's Affordable Housing Office - which has little to do with engineering and everything to do with politics. I am now working up in York Region - Commissioner of Transportation Services.
I was married for 18 years but am now divorced...Expand for more
with 2 teenaged boys - both in university.
I lift weights, run, do Pilates, swim, hike and play tennis to keep in good enough shape to keep up with my boys. But they still beat me at everything.
I am very active in my church and volunteer in the "out of the cold" program which feeds and sleeps homeless people in our church.
Overall, I can't believe they pay me to do something I love so much, my boys are the nicest people I know (despite the messy house), I have an amazing network of friends and family to keep me happy -and humble- I am fit and healthy and now that I am single again - I am happier than I have been in 10 years. Life is very good.
