Kathleen's Story

What have I been up to for the past 40 years? Moved out on my own after high school, working part and full-time in retail and banking while continuing school; took a one-year "wild oats" detour to New Orleans in 70-71; came back to L.A.; started a career in human resources and worked full-time, mostly in healthcare, until 2015 when I retired; got married to Chuck in 1977; moved to Sacramento in 1979; had our son, Charlie, in 1980; finally got my BA in English in 1981; lost my mom/best friend in 1982 (brain aneurism while on a canoe trip in Jackson Hole, WY); dad still living and remarried in 1997; held down the home front and had our daughter, Katie, in 1985 while Chuck worked full-time and attended law school; got both kids through college; son married in 2004, two kids, Julie 2008 and Spencer 2010; daughter married 2012, one grandkid (so far), Noah 2015 In between all the major events, we've traveled a lot in the US, Canada, and Europe, seen thousands of movies, attended tons of concerts, and read piles of books. I'm doing watercolor, printmaking and other artsy stuff, with shops on Etsy (Shiny Penny Shop), Redbubble, Society6 and Spoonflower (Shiny Penny Art). My husband is semi-retired from a solo law practice in personal injury, working from home. He also plays lead guit...Expand for more
ar in a band (havemercytheband) formed by a group of docs from Mercy Hospital of Folsom where I worked for 14 years, which has led to a wonderful circle of friends and social activities. They play mostly classic rock, a little country and some original music composed by the GI doc member. I feel very lucky that my family and I are all in good health, and look forward to lots of great adventures to come. Looking back at high school, I feel like I had a pretty wonderful experience up until my senior year: good friends, fun times (party at Debbie Appel's?), some great teachers (anyone remember Mr. Goodmanson - English?). It seems to me in retrospect that 1968 was the year everything changed in the world: the Vietnam war, the anti-establishment movement, don't trust anyone over 30, the incredible music. I kind of checked out of the school scene, felt alienated, didn't go to the prom, didn't even get a yearbook. But once I started school at Pierce I felt like I came into my own, and had a full-on wonderful, everything-goes experience for the next few years (while still being my responsible self, working, paying my bills, etc.). Glad I lived through it! Sorry I missed our 40th reunion - wonder how many of us will make it to our 50th? Best wishes to the RHS class of '69 for health and happiness!
