Kathryn's Story

Life I am married to a wonderful man with two kids. My son Luke is 4 and my daughter Estelle is 17 months. We recently moved to Glen Carbon, IL from Sellersburg, IN this Spring. I am enjoying my kids and watching them grow-up. I am a "Stay at Home" Mom and my husband is an executive at Emerson. School My favorite teacher was Mrs. Henderson from the 5th grade. She believed in me and encouraged me to try for the Honor Roll. She was the first teacher that actually taught me rather than tested and presented info. She was a true teacher. I enjoyed High School. Looking back I think Tuscola was blessed with the staff of good teachers at least in 1985. They were all good people. My favorites were Mrs. Bushu and Mr. Kidwell. I would not want to change anything but if I had to go back I would make better choices. You are young, stupid and think that you are on top of the world. You live and learn. Sometimes life is the best teacher. I remember doing splits at school dances! What was that about?! Crazy. I don't really remember stuff. I may have blocked out all the stupid things. I was a little wild. College My first semester Roomate was Venus from Chicago. She was a great fun loving hippie. She liked pot and other things. I would wake up in the night to the sound of pizza being munched and a cloud of pot smoke hovering above me. Needless to say she didn't return for the Spring Semester. She had this boyfriend in the Menard State prison. She would go...Expand for more
visit him. He reminded her of Jimmy Hendrix. I saw a picture once and he did look like him. Wow! My second roomate decided she didn't like guys any longer. It was a little weird and I can't go there. My Sophomore year I had a sweet roommate whom everyone called "Bubbles". She was funny. She hung forks up all over the walls. She would have gum attacks and eat all my gum and leave me notes. I corrupted her into partying. I feel a little bad about my behavior. I then moved off campus with my two best friends and it was fun all the way. Katie and I did some crazy stuff and we are probably lucky to be alive. I think someone was praying for me. I remember going to Ladies Night on Wednesdays for free Long Island Ice Teas at Gatsby's. Going to 8 a.m. class with the same clothes on and stamps all over my hands. Ugh!!! I met my hubby and he calmed me down! Workplace My first job was all day kindergarten in Leland, IL. I said that I could coach. They assigned me to volleyball and basketball assistant. I didn't know what the HELL I was doing! I then moved to Peoria and taught AT-Risk kids for two years until it went part-time and then jumped over to Washington, IL. I taught all day kindergarten for 9 years and loved every minute of it. I had wonderful people to work with and a great team of K teachers. Now I am a "Stay At Home Mom" and it is the hardest job I have ever had. I could control a class of 20 five year olds but my two kids run me ragged.
