Kathryn's Story

Life Update for Feb. 2012. I recently took up clogging and Pickle Ball. My horse numbers are down to 4, ranging from ages17 to 26. I set up at the Hatville Flea Market about once a month in the summer to thin out some of my collections from over the years. The home improvement projects haven't materialized yet. Older posting: Don't know how many of you I have had contact with since graduating. This is Kathryn Zimmer Sheets. For over 30 years we bred, raised and trained Arabian horses near Akron, Ohio. In November of 2007. I retired from working with the Board of MR/DD school and workshop systems after 32 years with them. I am presently not a member of the classmates.com site but am on for the free session. I am looking forward to my retirement. I have a husband Larry and a son and daughter Scott and Janet. Janet lives in the Jacksonville, Florida area with her husband Steve and my three grandchildren. I have always been an animal lover and may get involved with some of the pet rescue groups in my area, though I have generally taken care of animals as they cross my path for most of my life. I have maintained contact with most of my classmates, but there are some of you that I've lost contact with. Don't have any real photos loaded into my computer that I would know how to upload to anywhere. Learning more about computers is on the list of things to do now that I have more time. Another interest will be to learn more on doing home improvement projects, like laying new flooring and refinishing wood floors. It seems just as we get more time the body doesn't have the stamina that it used to. During my horse training and showing days, I might be on horseback 5 hours a day. I can't even imagine that now. We had more than 60 horses born over our years as a breeder. Just looking at some of their pictures reminds me of how muc...Expand for more
h I enjoyed doing that as part of my life. The young ones with their vibrant and curious energy just waiting to be channeled into responsible riding horses. That was always the challenge, turning each of them into a horse someone wanted to make part of his life. Many of them received honors in their showing. It seems hard to believe that our last foal crop was in 1998. I still have 5 left who range in age from 12 to 26, mostly retired champions. They are still a joy to look out upon in their pasture. Would like to hear from other people who went to Scioto as it was a very close knit school. Kathryn Zimmer Sheets School Richard Snider and Bertha Wotschak were my most inspiring teachers in high school. Both offered me encouragement in my studies. For many years out of high school contact was maintained with both. Lost contact with Mrs.Wotschak some time after she moved to North Carolina. I always wanted to be a dairy farmer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were probably right. Playing pickle ball and clogging for staying healthy and watching TV and reading for quiet time. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have enough sleep, good food, and alone time to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Christopher Reeve had been my hero in the way that he dealt with his devastating accident with courage and hope. Cats and horses have been much of my focus in life. If I won $100 million, I'd give 50percent of it to descendents, then spend the rest on cat and norse rescues, me and my husband and other charities. 1975 Ohio Half Arabian Assoc. High Point Award for horse shows for my Half-Arabian gelding, Raff-Dee Ras. Many championships also for my other Arabian Horses. Hearing bed time stories told to me by my father about different things our draft horses had done.
