Kathryn's Story
Life
Life? My life started out in North Dakota and I ended up in Idaho in 68 on the Placement Program. I graduated in 74 - & I married in 74 - got divorced in 83 - moved to Montana in 84 and remarried in 90.
I have 13 children (his, mine and ours). Explanation: 7 step children, 5 was mine to begin with and 1 that anchors them all together. From that stems - 39 grandchildren(22 from my own pack in which 3 are deceased) and I just know that eventually we will add on as the years go by becuz some of our lil guys (who aren't so little now have not produced offspring yet0.
Hobbies? I use to bowl til our bowling alley shut down. Then I took up pool and began playing on a league, not that great but I have improved n rated well enough to get a top shooter jacket on my team, four different times. Now, I am taking college courses and taking up truckdriving.
I also like to do crafts such as crocheting, sewing, etc. Other than that, we go camping/fishing - I started attending pow wows more . . . hoping to encourage my off spring to learn more about their culture. Our youngest, just began dancing. He is the only one out of our kids that has taken an interest . . . so we are pretty proud of him.
School
I attended Riverside (1st - 6th) in Bismarck, ND; Lincoln (7th) in Montpelier, ID; Bear Lake Jr High (8th - 9th) in Paris, ID and Bear Lake High (10th - 12th) in Montpelier, ID.
College
I selected "Business Administration" as my major. It took me a few years to complete but I eventually made it after my third try. (Just had a few good job opportunities that would pop up and I just had to drop out. Money talked - ya know!)
But, I finally did it. Had to show my kids that if I can do it...Expand for more
- they can too. Plus my eldest daughter was an inspiration - as I was to her. We had to give each other a nudge every now and then but I finally got my AA from Fort Peck Community College and we (my daughter and I) finally got our BS from Rocky Mountain College located in Billings, MT. She went on to get her Masters but what do I need a Masters degree for at this time of my ife. Almost be time to retire. HaHa!!!
Workplace
Well, I guess my very first job I got after I moved to Montana was at our Casino that had just opened up. I started out as a floorworker and worked my way up to head cashier, Assisant Manager and then Manager.
And later on down the road - I worked in administration as receptionist/secretary and then data clerk.
A year or so ago I quit my job with the tribes and I took over my daughters business cuz she was moving to Albuquerque. The shop we took over involved detailing vehicles and about 6 months later I expanded the business into a towing service. Then due to medical reasons (a broken ankle) I had to close down the detailing portion but I kept the wrecker service.
Besides that I have been bookkeeper/part owner of my husbands business for the past eight years and I worked parttime as a Meal Delivery person for the elderly that are homebound. I resigned form that position and now I am attending classes once again. Taking truck driving to get my CDL. We went thru the book last semester and this semester we get to drive. Of course I/we (the students) had to finish pass our tests for a CDL before we could even be in that class and I passed all of them. So . . . . I am driving now and hope to get the shifting down alot better, but I am doing pretty good so far.
