Kathy's Story

Life My life??? geez it is really exciting. I was never really connected in high school. I think because I was part of a really close family and we had sing alongs on the weekends with my dad playing the guitar and my mom playing the piano. Dating and hanging with my classmates did not interest me in the slightest. I think I was a late bloomer. Anyway....................I went to college. Yes I did!! I was so unmotivated academically in high school. My parents doubted I would want to go. I got a Bachelors and a Master's degree. Both from The Ohio State University. I had a thirty year teaching career. I even taught for a year on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. That was an incredible experience. I was a teacher, a reading specialist. For the last ten years of my career I was a Title I coordinator for my district in the state of Arizona. My husband is my 2nd husband. He owned and operated a large appliance store here in Arizona for twenty years. Neither of us are each other's original owners and between us we have four children. Three boys and a girl. Our grandchildren are a bit different 6 girls and one boy. I am not a volunteer person except on a short term basis as we travel too much to be a regular at anything. I play bridge, Mahjongg, golf and pickleball. Along with other things along the way. My husband and I are both retired at the present time and we travel about six months of the year and the rest of the year we enjoy the warm winters of Arizona. We follow the sun in the winter and the shade and the cool in the summer. College I have literally gone to school my entire life. It took me ten years to get my bachelor's degree. From 1962 to 1972. Along the way I got married and had two children. Then it took another ten years for my Master's degree. Along the way I got a divorce and remarried. I got both degrees at The Ohio State University. I have taken lots of classes at Arizona State University and also picked classes here and there at other local colleges. I finally ended up teaching in a college for two years. Workplace I have always worked with long periods of down time in between. I started out in Lazarus. That was part time during school. Then I switched and I was a legal secretary till my first marriage. I moved to Newark Ohio and had two chil...Expand for more
dren and finished my undergraduate work. I taught for ten year in Newark Ohio and just before moving to Arizona with my second husband I got my Master's degree. I taught for twenty years in Arizona and then retired......well kind of . I taught for Glendale Community college but that was only for two years. I taught two classes in the evenings and only went in two nights a week. Then I went to the island of St.Kitts and I taught for a year at Ross University. That was a really fun thing to do. If I had wanted to work longer I would have worked there another year and then continued in the international schools for one more year. However, I did not want to work !! I liked my free time so we came home. I am currently certified for ESL and TEFL and would like to get a short assignment internationally. My husband and would both go and I would teach English as a second language. We would use all the off time to sightsee. I have several offers but do not know if I want to work at all. I have to add on to my story. We rented a villa on the coast of France and we lived there for three months. It was a great experience and we had such a good time. We had a Euro train pass and we hopped on and off trains . Our pass covered Italy,France,Spain, Switzerland and Germany. We would go back to the villa and wash our clothes and take off again every week it was a great time. Then I came home and I did get a short term teaching assignment with International schools. I taught in Lithuania for three months. I was a lot of fun and I just loved it. We had never been to the eastern block countries and we were able to see Belarus, Latvia , Poland and Lithuania. I came home from there and decided that I really wanted to teach internationally for at least one more year. I got an assignment in Taiwan. We had never been to Asia before either. I went and stayed for two years. We just got back in June of 2012. International teaching is the best. I never have more than seven kids in my class and they take really good care of you. They provide everything and then they pay you really well. I have loved my international teaching jobs. Update: I have been home now for a couple of years. I now play golf! We are happy and healthy and enjoying our life. We travel every summer to get out of the heat..
