Kathy's Story
Life
I'm retired from teaching and back living in Olympia, Washington, where I grew up. I am enjoying the rediscovery of this beautiful area. My weeks are taken up teaching a Bible study at a retirement center, and what I call my, "la tee da", days, once a week with my daughter, Lynn, and her two babies. I have found a home at Evergreen Christian Community Church, where I volunteer with prison ministries and as an adult Bible teacher.
I love to get outside and walk around Capital Lake or on hiking trails in the area. The cool weather here is so great after living the past many years in the Calif. Central Valley heat. I enjoy most holidays with my son, Jeff, and his family in Los Gatos, CA.
I am widowed after a marriage of 38 years to my husband, Richard, and I am adjusting to life as a single woman. I've found lots of joy in the freedom to travel to visit family members and friends around the country, a yearly retreat week in Pacific Grove, Calif....Expand for more
, and one week a year that I either trade or use in Princeville, Kauai.
My faith and family are most important in my life. My sister Terry and her husband come out for a week on the Oregon Coast with us every summer and a family reunion is planned in July of this year for family and friends. I would love to see some of my old friends from Olympia High.
My family lived in the country out on the Overhulse Road and so my memories include McLane Grade School as it was called then and the freedom my sister, Terry, and I had riding horses all over the countryside with Jean Whitney, Jean Rinehart, and sometimes Dale Ziegler and others who had horses in the area. Jean Whitney and I have stayed in touch over the years but most of my old friends I have lost track of. I have renewed my friendship with Carolyn Daugherty Caruso. Carolyn helped with the passing of my father through her OBee Credit Union duties, and we have enjoyed getting together often.
