Kathy's Story
Life
After TSHS graduation, I moved to Victoria and then Vancouver (UVic for undergrad and Regent College for graduate work), and then back east to Toronto, after which I settled in Ottawa and environs for almost 20 years. Studied English literature and theology, published a book, poems, and other odds and ends in various journals, was a House of Commons speech writer for a little-known MP, then took up freelance editing. I've worked for several major presses in three countries, mostly on academic books -- some of which I'm genuinely proud to be associated with. Married David in 1984, and thereby acquired 3 wonderful stepkids, who now have spouses and kids of their own. Our own two sons, Gideon and Josh, are 21 and 19 respectively, and the world's nicest teenagers -- not to mention...Expand for more
(of course) handsome, witty, and incredibly bright and talented. In 2000 we surprised everyone, including ourselves, by moving to Texas, where David is professor of literature and humanities at Baylor University. Everything you've heard is true, sort of: it's a place like no other, to be sure, but we find much to like here -- including many wonderful friends and a lakeside home that we share with our zany airedale terrier Shandy.
2020 update. Retired from editing a decade ago and refashioned myself as an independent scholar/historian.. Wrote and published two books related to the American Civil War (LSU Press, 2016, 2020), though the first had Canadian provenance. Lots of vivid memories still from TSHS -- very hard to think of those events as a half-century ago in the past.
