Kathy's Story
My nickname in high school was "Walking Dictionary," and of course I still read voraciously. I'm now a freelance copyeditor. The name of my business is KOK Edit. In addition to editing manuscripts for biomedical journals, I edit books on psychology, mainstream health care, alternative health care, human sexuality, clinical medicine, surgery, and allied health.
I earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Houston in 1980. Also in 1980, I married a newspaper copyeditor; we had a daughter in 1983. That marriage ended in 1988. From 1980 to 1982, I lived in Beaumont, Texas, and worked as a reporter at the Beaumont Enterprise-Journal. In 1982, I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where I worked in hospital public relations (1982-1983) and then as an in-house copyeditor for a sma...Expand for more
ll publisher (1983-1987).
In 1987, I moved to East Setauket on Long Island, from where I commuted to Manhattan to work as an in-house production editor for first Simon & Schuster (1987-1991) and then Churchill Livingstone (medical publishing house, 1991-1994).
In 1993, I married a cabinetmaker; we had a son in 1994. In 1995, I started my own copyediting business so I could be at home with my baby. We had another son in September 2001.
In 2006, my daughter got married on my birthday, and in 2007, she and my son-in-law presented my husband and me with our first grandchild.
In 2008, I completed the process for certification as an editor in the life sciences, conducted by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences.
I love doing embroidery, gardening, and camping. Please write and let's catch up.
