Kathy's Story

I guess I should put this more into "story" form. It's hard to believe it's been 35 years since we graduated! My first "Classmates" in life were from Liberty, Indiana where we lived until I was in 5th grade. We moved to Wilmington, Ohio in 1965 where I attended East End Elementary. Sixth through eighth grade was at Wilmington Jr. High. I spent my freshman and half my sophomore year at WHS. The next 2 1/2 years I attended Norwin Sr. High School in North Huntingdon, Pa. Immediately after high school, I went to college in Tennessee, starting the summer session of 1973. I stayed a whole 10 weeks when I decided I'd had enough of studying. I returned to Pennsylvania and got a job putting my business training into practice. The following Valentine's Day (Feb. 14, 1974) I married Michael O'Bradovic. A year later, I quit my job to become full time mom to Jennifer Lynn (who now is 34 years old and a black belt in something or another. She's into fitness and health and is simply beautiful! Jen is single and lives in Cincinnati.) Fifteen short months later on Fathers' Day, we added a baby brother to the family. (Paul now age 33 is married to Tatianne from Brazil. He is a brilliant and creative Youth pastor in Toledo, Ohio) Another two years passed by and I was loving being "mommy" so we added another son (Joel Michael, now age 30 and a Sgt. in the Army. He is married to Brandi and lives in Trenton, Ohio. Joel has served his country fighting terrorism and extremely talented musician) We loved our old home that was built in the 1830's that was situated in "Jacktown" Pa. I filled my days with gardening and canning vegetables, decorating cakes both for my children and for 'customers', sewing my own clothes and for my kids, crafting and all sorts of homespun activities. We loved the history and the fertile soil of our little acre but Mike's job was opening a new location in Cincinnati so for me this was the chance to get back "home" where my roots were. Just 4 weeks after Rachel Lynn joined our family, we relocated to Cincinnati (she is now age 27; interprets for the deaf; just moved to Cincinnati from Georgia She's married to a great guy named Steve.) We ended up living a few miles north ...Expand for more
of the city and about 45 minutes from Wilmington (which I still consider to be "home".) Leah Michele joined the family in 1986 to complete our home. (She currently lives in New Jersey, is 23 years old and is attending college and working) Leah is our spark plug..fun, outgoing, drama queen, writer and musician. Other than our golden retreiver and three cats, we are empty nesters with no grandchildren (we do have 5 grand cats and 5 grand dogs if that counts) Quite the contrast to my early married life, my days are now filled with career and business activities. I worked as an independent contractor with Home Interiors & Gifts from 1987 until its recent demise. As of January 2009, have alligned myself with a brand new company called Home Decor Direct. I also am involved with a company called Take Shape for Life as a Health Coach assisting my clients with their weight loss efforts. Early on in life, I had developed an interest in sign language and that has stayed with me through the years. I currently interpret for the deaf in our church in Carlisle, Ohio. Interesting that this has actually become such a part of our lives since my husband, Mike developed a significant hearing loss a few years back. Life has thrown a few fun surprises along the way, like winning a PT Cruiser as a 'door prize' at one of my HI Seminars. I guess I would say my biggest accomplishment was being published in "Chicken Soup for the Soul" in 2007 I currently have a song in Nashville ("Somewhere in Ohio") so when it's released you can say you know the writer! Writing songs, poems, short inspriational/devotional stories has become my joy in the last few years. Still have a long "bucket list" (things I want to do before I kick the bucket) like cruising Alaska and publishing an entire book. I thoroughly enjoyed attending Wilmington's class reunion last summer although technically I graduated from Norwin (I don't know if anyone up there is even planning anything!) I love reading on Classmates.com about people from my past...so now go write your story so I can get caught up on all my friends' lives. You can also find me on Facebook if you'd like to get in touch without having to pay Classmates.com!!! LOL!
