Kathryn Johnson's Story
In the 80's I worked several years as a high school registrar in Lompoc, California. When Challenger blew up, my husband was offered a position at Kennedy Space Center, and in 1987 we relocated to Titusville, Florida.
For a year I worked with a team of proposal writers for a business management firm, who created a position for me on their editorial team. But illness forced me to step down, much to my dismay.
In time, I started attending a yearly Christian writers' conference and began selling my work to small Christian periodicals and ultimately working my way up to four-color Christian magazines, including Today's Christian Woman, Moody Magazine (now defunct), and several denominational periodicals.
My work has also appeared in secular publications. Several years ago, CATS magazine published my ...Expand for more
first feature article, "Cats Can Drown," a full-color 5-page spread.
Several smaller periodicals have also featured my work, including as-told-to pieces, inspirational first-person articles, and poetry. Some of my work has been excerpted by notable Christian authors. One notable Christian writer used an illustration from one of my articles in his book on marriage, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn I had the lead story in a book called AMAZING LOVE, published by TCW books, the publishing arm of Today's Christian Woman magazine.
For the past several years, I've been on hiatus due to illness, while making myself available to a few other published writers who ask me to critique their work. While I have not submitted any new manuscripts in the last few years, I am considering a return to the field.
