Kathy's Story
Life
I graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1979 with a diploma in Nursing. In 1987, I graduated from Queens College with my BS in Nursing. I've been playing the harp for the past 18 years; actually, that's what moved me to Tulsa in 1993. I graduated from Oral Roberts University with my M.A. in Church Music in 1998. I have now been a nurse with maternal/infant nursing as my specialty for 30 years. I finished my master's degree in nursing in August. I am now a certified nurse-midwife; this has been a dream of mine for over 25 years. I'm not married, but I'm having a great time living out God's plan for my life. (And I count every child I've helped into the world and every child of an expectant parent I've helped in some way as one of my own -- so by now I have THOUSANDS of kids ranging in age from birth to age 34.)

past year has taken me all over the country; I've worked in the NC mountains, in Indiana, and in Oklahoma City. I was diagnosed with cancer (which was caught early) at the end of my clinical practicum in Oklahoma City. I had surgery twice, chemo for 6 months, and radiation for 6 1/2 weeks. God was with me throughout the treatment time, and now I'm 4 years past diagnosis and moving forward.
I had great difficulty with job placement once the schooling and active cancer treatment were finished, but finally, last September, I got a full-time job as Director of Clinical Education for NurseCompetency, a company based in Chandler, AZ. I live with my mom in my childhood home in Charlotte, NC, and take care of her needs, while I telecommute from the comfort of my home. On many fronts, these past few years have been a healing time in my life (and a time of moving toward getting organized and debt-free...long way to go, but I'll get there).
I've had a great life, so far, and I can't wait to see what else God has in store for me in the future.
