Kathy's Story
Life
I graduated from Grade 12 at Riverdale Collegiate in 1965 and that same summer started working for the Toronto Star. I was married Nov. 2, 1968 to Daan, whom I met while he was employed at The Star. We had 2 children Amy, born May 1, 1975 and Brad born Sept. 19, 1980. We were married until Daan passed away very suddenly from cancer on May 22, 2002, 10 days past his 55th birthday and exactly one month to the day prior to our daughter's wedding, June 22, 2002. I'm finally getting to know who I am! It seems I've always been someone's daughter, wife, mother etc. At the age of 54, I finally started to take time for myself which was a very hard thing for me to do. Who knows-maybe I'll be a really 'late' bloomer! Now it's six years later and I'm 60. I have since sold my house after 35 years of living in it and moved from...Expand for more
Scarborough to a condo in the west end near the lake. I also took advantage of an early retirment package 1 1/2 years ago and now lead the wondrous life of a retiree! I became a grandmother March 17, 2007 to a sweet little boy named Ricardo Daniel (Ricky D.) who lives in Fort Lauderdale with his parents, my daughter Amy and her husband Ricardo. My son Brad has followed in my footsteps and works at The Star in Advertsing.
Workplace
After Riverdale, I joined the Toronto Star newspaper at the tender age of 17 1/2 + 3 days old--Aug. 3, 1965. I worked in Advertising for 9 1/2 yrs. and left to have my daughter Amy in 1975. I was able to stay at home for nearly 10 years and have my son Brad in 1980 before going back to work part-time in Dec. 1985. I'm still there. It's a great company and I do enjoy the advertising business.
