Katie's Story
After high school I went to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I graduated in Music Education in 1974. I met my husband at BYU my last year there and we got married 7 weeks after I graduated. We stayed in the Provo/Orem, Utah area for 21 years. I was a stay at home mom with our 2 boys and 2 girls. I was a room mother every year and did Cub Scouts for many years. I taught violin and piano lessons and played in the Utah Valley Symphony for 20 years. In 1995 my husband got a new job with i2 Technologies in Dallas, TX and so we moved to Plano where we still live today. Three of our children got married in 2003. Our daughters got married a week apart in August that year and 1 son got married 4 months later in December. That was one wild year...Expand for more
emotionally and it took our checkbook a long time to recover. Our oldest son got married in 2005. Now we have 5 grandchildren; 2 girls and 3 boys. None of them live nearby, so we travel between Utah, Arizona, and Texas to see them.
I teach music and art at a Montessori school ages toddlers through 5th grade. I still play my violin in a small string ensemble. We play for weddings, church and community events. I am very active in my church (Mormon) and in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). The picture is of me as the Regent of our local DAR chapter last year. Every summer I travel to Washington DC to represent my chapter at the annual conference. Our motto is "God, Home, Country" and that's how I live my life.
