Katrina's Story
Life
Though I still don't feel like a grownup, at 40 something, I guess I qualify... After high school I went to UCSD but had no idea what I was doing there so it wasn't until my 30s that I finally graduated with a degree in music/voice from UCLA. In the meantime I worked primarily as a production assistant in television which is where I met my husband Michael (he was working on a show at the other end of the building). My family had moved to Santa Cruz in 77 so we would spend weekends driving up to visit them or driving up the other side of the Sierras to go flyfishing or cross country skiing in Mammoth. We also began training Springer Spaniel hunting dogs and also going to the opera -- a lot. And collecting old roses. Suffice it to say, life has been eclectic in the extreme.
In his 40s, Mike decided to go to law school, so we moved to N. Cal so he could go to the law school at UCBerkeley. I began working as a legal secretary in San Francisco for the duration (as opposed to grad school) and it turned out to be a wonderful education in itself. Ini...Expand for more
tially we thought we would just come back to television, but while we were in NCal, the internet "happened" and as it turned out, television and internet were a good dovetail, so we were able to stay in NCal. Mike got a job in Palo Alto and we moved to Half Moon Bay. After a few years there, Mike changed jobs -- still in Silicon Valley and we moved to Santa Cruz and bought my parents house. (They moved to something smaller.) We also had three kids -- Nick (12), Sabrina (10) and Sophia (4) who are, needless to say, wonderful!! While I sometimes wish we'd started everything about 10 years earlier, I'm relying on that common understanding that somehow I'm WISER in exchange. I know that I am better at taking one thing at a time, rather than being paralyzed by possibility. And I hope that I am somewhat more kind.
So that is the Readers Digest version of things for anyone who would care to know -- actually Sophia is wanting breakfast so I will stop now and perhaps add more later. She may be internet conversant but has no patience for it when Mom is using it.
