Keith's Story
Life
Well...Went to Shepard in 1987, moved to Palos Hills where I attended and eventually graduated from Stagg HS in 1990, went to Moraine Valley for a semester, transferred to SIU with my then girlfriend Jennifer. During this time, I worked at the SIU PD as a "Saluki Patrol Officer". I also worked at Palos Heights PD as a Community Service Officer and as a Police Cadet until I was 21. Worked PT at Palos Hills PD as a Community Service Officer around the same time. Worked summers at Hydrosol, Inc in Bridgeview as a forklift driver, carton packer, stacker, you name it..Jack of all trades..LOL
When I turned 21 in 1991, I started to test for various police departments because my goal was to follow in my brother and father's footsteps and be a police officer. In mid 1997, I was hired by my current dept (Northbrook, IL. PD) and they sent me to the Cook County Sheriff's Police Academy for ten weeks.
I then started in Oct 1997 at Northbrook PD where I've been ever since. I work (by choice..I hate dayshift!) 6PM-6AM on patrol where I am one of the most senior officers on my shift...The nice thing about these twelve hr shifts is that you only work two days in a row and being off every other Fri, Sat, and Sun is even better! There are approx 65 officers on the dept and there are approx 20 with less seniority than me. I can't see myself doing anything else than patrol and responding to calls....Generally, it's never boring (well...it can get very boring at 3AM on a weekday..LOL)
I am also a range officer, firearms instructor, and armorer (the guy who fixes all of the guns) for Beretta, Remington...Expand for more
, and Glock on our department. I am also a Breathylyzer Operator and one of the top DUI officers in the dept. It's a great career and I can't see doing anything else..Beats a 9-5 desk job every time :) Every day at work is different and you're practically your own boss and get to make your own decisions on calls for the most part
This is something I am most proud of with my life to this point:
About three years ago, my father (who has always had one diseased kidney..since I was five years old) finally had to go on dialysis because the remaining kidney ceased to function any more and I was given the opportunity to donate one of my kidneys to him...He's doing great now even after three years and I'm so glad to have been able to help him..After all, he gave me life and it's the least I can do!
Got married in 1999 to my beautiful (and taller) wife Jennifer and we are now expecting our first child, a girl (Lauren Elizabeth Celia) in mid May 2006...Lots of work on my days off getting the nursery ready!
We moved from the south burbs to Grayslake (far north) a few years ago to a beautiful newer 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath single family house with a finished full basement (my billiard and workout rooms) and full rear deck, located in a cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood with great neighbors...Life is good!
Would love to hear how my old classmates are doing!....Hope everyone is doing well!
