Keith's Story

Life I got tired of all the technology associated with work, so, in 2006 I retired. To catch up, I have been married my wife, Becky, for 39 years. It has been a great time. We have one son, Todd, who is 34 years old. Todd is married to Jenn, and they have two children, Lucas (3) and Sydney (5). Todd started out as a golf professional and is now the general manager of the Golf Club of Tennessee, near Nashville. Becky spent her career teaching school. For 37 years she mostly taught first and second grade. She spent the last 25 years in Lakeview School District in Battle Creek, Michigan. My "career" has been more "spotty." After FMHS I attended the University of Missouri and then Emporia State University in Emporia Kansas. Becky and I met there at the beginning of my senior year. At that time I experienced what was clearly a religious conversion experience. In 1968 I entered Eden Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduation in 1972, I pastored local congregations in Missouri for 10 years. At the end of that time I went back to school and received a doctorate in counseling. Our next stop was Battle Creek, Michigan. I worked for and then became Executive Director of a Samaritan Counseling Center. I also developed a private practice in counseling. In 1993 I returned to pastoring a local church in Michigan. I continued to pastor until retiring in 2006. For the last five years that I was pastoring, I also taught in the Master of Counseling program at Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Several years before retirement Becky and I bought a condo in Naples, Florida. We bought that because we loved Florida, and our kids were in the area. Six months before we retired, Todd accepted the job in Tennessee. So, we bought a second condo in Franklin, Tennessee, which is 15 mile...Expand for more
s from Nashville. We spend about half our time in Franklin and about half our time in Naples. While I am at Naples, I work about two days a week as a starter on a very nice golf course. The pay is minimal, but I get free golf. Since the going seasonal rate at the course is $210 per round, my incentive is the free golf. In Tennessee, Becky and I spend our time babysitting. I love being retired, about 75% of the time. There are still moments when I feel there are other things I still want to do. Believe it or not, high on my list is writing a book. I actually did write one and got a contract to publish it, but the publisher went out of business. After some grieving, I have now started again to attempt to have it published. So, maybe some day it will happen. It has been years since I was in Ft. Madison. As I have retired, I find a yearning to reconnect with people who were so much a part of my life "back then." I would love to hear from people. Since the only phone we have in Tennessee is our cell phone, we are not listed. However, our number, if you would like it, is 269-599-7427. We do have a "land line" in Naples and are listed in the Naples Florida, white pages. I hope your lives are good. Becky and I feel we have been very blessed. To the best of our knowledge, we are both strong and in good health. One of my passions is walking and I try to walk at least 20 miles per week. The only sport that I am still involved in is golf. I am not all that good, but I really enjoy playing the game. As I have indicated, my Christian faith is very important in my life. I get very frustrated that it seems to me that the "religious right" is trying to define what being an evangelical Christian means, and that certainly is not where my faith is. But, that discussion is not what this page is for. Be happy and healthy.
