Keith's Story
I left Halifax as soon as I turned 18 and went to Ottawa where I still am. I earned a BA (Political Science) from Carleton and 20 years later, an Executive MBA from Queen's.
My wife (Lynne) of 43 years is a retired French HS teacher from Northern Ontario and we have 3 kids. My oldest (Jonas) finished at Acadia and has worked here for the Tories in their war room, managing political operations for Atlantic Canada as well as having served in a Minister's office and managed the office of a Parliamentary Secretary. He worked with the RCMP in a civilian role for several years and is now in the protocol division of Heritage Canada. He and his partner have one son, Henri. Our 2nd son (D'Arcy) is an artist, working in Ottawa as a hair stylist on movie productions and vowing to never grow up. His ComiCon and Halloween costumes are legendary in Ottawa and on Reddit. Our princess (Renee) finished her Nutritional Science also at Acadia and having finished the charitable phase of her career with Meals on Wheels is also a civilian member of the RCMP. She was married in 2014 and now has two children, Jude and Lucy.
I've worked at the RCMP, DND, House of Commons, PCO and CEIC/HRDC. After 22 years with the fed gov't as a Director of several national programs, in 1995, I shifted to the NGO and high tech sectors. I most recently headed up the public sector organizational excellence group for the Conference Board of Canada, a non-profit economic think tank. I've also been a rock concert promoter having brought both Big Sugar and Tom Cochrane to the Corel Centre (now the Canadian Tire Centre) to headline a hi-tech battle of the bands competition which I ran. As a retirement hobby, Lynne and I are both ordained wedding officiants and we perform about 150 highly innovative wedding ceremonies each year. Check us out by doing a Google search for Exceptional Ceremonies in Ottawa. Several years ago, I performed the wedding of QEH's 1967-68 Head Boy, 40 years after we had first met.
We've been cruising the past 12 winters and, after graduating from the Caribbean, made it to the Baltics in 2008, South America in 2010, a trip around the world with stops in Rome, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, and China in 2011, Rome 2012; Venice and the Adriatic in 2013, Australia and New Zealand in 2014. Machu Pichu, Easter Island, and the Panama Canal in the winter of 2015, Paris and Barcelona in the late fall of 2015. the Panama canal, Eastern Australia, Bali, Koh Samui, and then most recently, Brazil, Morocco, and Lisbon.
My return visits to Halifax have been tied mainly to family medical issues. Unfortunately, my father, younger sister and mother all passed away during a 20 month period in 2004-06 (along with my 3 remaining uncles and 1 aunt).
Despite my fondness for Keith's beer, I actually prefer wine at home and most other places. I am an original member of the wine tasting Group of Seven and hold the record for having participated in over 245 consecutive blind wine tastings over a 43 year period, including one with all 5 French 1st growths and another with 9 Chateau Rothchilds!
Lynne and I became grandparents for the first time in late June, 2015 and we look forward to many years of nurturing and spoiling Jude, Lucy , and Henri as well as any other future siblings/cousins who may eventually arrive.
