Keith's Story
Life
I tried to avoid the draft by moving to Montana, but the FBI found me, so I went into the Army for 2+ yrs. Married '72, BSN Nursing at SJSU '78, amicable divorce in '80 or so, became an independent contractor traveling all over CA training RNs to take care of open-heart surgery patients. Got Masters in Biological Dysfunction along the way, then had to "retire" due to an injury. My sweety of 16+ years died suddenly in front of me April '98. I now live with my cat near Clearlake CA near my surviving parent, Joe, who is requiring more of my time in his maintenance. My interests are mostly in the area of PC graphics, digital photography, tasteless humor, and dabbling in my home recording studio. I traveled extensively in my RV for a while. I have an aversion to arson, random acts of mayhem and me trying to dance. I try to be kind to animals & children, usually in that order. I plan on building my house on my 2 acres when my feet will allow me to. (They're currently not cooperating with my plans, but will change their tune after I threaten them with humiliation and embarrassment)I like working in stained glass and plan on having a small studio in the house I want to build. I'm a laid-back, informal type guy, and am possessed of an irreverant sense of humor. I avoid lawyers, realtors, and car-salespersons. I don't trust the government or big business. I think most CEOs/executives and all destroyers of the environment should be shot, or at least stripped of their ill-gotten gains and imprisoned for an unspecified length of time with crack-crazed, homosexual Turkish sailors and subjected to loud, scratchy recordings of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. There, enough of my ranting!!!
School
I found high-school itself to be, for the most part, a non-ending horribly painful source of stress & mise...Expand for more
ry. This was undoubtedly due to being very immature along with a terrible relationship between me & my parents. I would only do it again if I could remove my folks from the experience. I did, however, find activities outside of high-school to be some of the most wonderful, inspiring and rewarding of my entire life! I had some cosmically (is that a word?) outrageous times with some real wackos that I'll never forget! I will always be grateful to Chuck & Eleanor Hester for a good portion of the best times & travels of my life too! I was lucky to have traveled with them & Greg, Brad and Seadog (Rick Briggs-a complete saga himself & a great guy to da max!) to the Southwest & the Northwest and even flying into a very remote fishing camp in Canada! Oh my, yessireebob, we DID have many amazing times, youbetcha!!! (Plus I learned a great deal in spite of all the fun we had...heh heh heh)
Military
Being a draftee I had no say as to what my training would be, fortunately, they made me a medical specialist. I was with tankers in the 2nd Armored Division as a medic for a few months. I spent this time riding around in the desert in tanks and trying not to get run over at night, really satisfying for the intellectually borderline brain-dead... I was then transferred to HHC III Corps, the company with the commanding generals and so on (Patton's grandson was actually the Post Commander), and why in the hell they wanted a medic, I had NO idea! Out of boredom I started working in the ER at Darnall Army Hospital at Ft. Hood, TX where I learned a great deal. This is what got me interested in becoming a Registered Nurse. I'd have never imagined in my most grotesque nightmares that being drafted into the US Army would set me on the path to a really satisfying and worthwhile career, even paying for my edu-ma-kashun!!!
