Keith's Story
Life
I've been married to Debbie since 1980 and we have two daughters, Kristen Lee, 22, and Marissa Ruth, 15. Kristen just graduated from the US Naval Acdemy and is awaiting the start of flight school. Marissa is a sopomore in HS and just returned from a visit to Australia.
I attended the University of South Carolina under a Navy ROTC Scholarship where Debbie and I met and were engaged.
My sea tours included three ships, two of which remain in active service.
I was a deck division officer and Navigator in USS TRENTON (LPD 14), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia during two Mediterranean deployments and three North Atlantic deployments. I was the commissioning Ship Control Officer in USS RODNEY M. DAVIS (FFG 60) in Long Beach, California, shifting homeports to Yokosuka, Japan, and deploying to the Arabian Gulf as part of EARNEST WILL escort operations. ) in San Diego, California, for a West-Pac and IO deployment, numerous exercises, anti-drug law enforcement operations and preps for deployment in support of DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM.
Ashore, I served as an instructor at both the Naval Amphibious School, Little Creek, Virginia, and at Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, Rhode Island. I commanded the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center, West Palm Beach, Florida, and was Chief Staff Officer for Inshore Boat Squadron One in Charleston, South Carolina. His last assignment was as Reserve Programs coordinator for Commander, Military Sealift Command in Washington, DC.
Since retiring from active service I have been the founding teacher of Palm Beach Maritime Academy and was the founding senior Naval Science Instructor for J.P. Taravella High SchoolÂs Navy Junior ROTC unit. I'm currently a full-time student at a seminary in Fort Lauderdale.
