Kelly's Story

Life Hmm, how to start... I grew up in Houston/Spring/Klein whatever you want to call it. Lived there before i started grade school until after my freshman year of high school. I attended Theiss Elementary through first grade, then completed elementary school at Krahn. I remember playing in the woods (which are now gone and replaced by developed neighborhood lots, how sad) in and around these schools and my house in Colony Creek. I was also in neighborhood Swim Team for several years, winning a Most Improved award thanks to some encouragement by an older team member, Kevin Smith. I attended Kleb Intermediate School back when it was the smaller 1 story building that shares Klein HS's parking lot, and was in Advanced Choir with (Dr or Mr) Serpico, and was also involved in Art and Crafts, enrolled in Drama classes and participated in drama tourneys. To balance this, my favorite subject in school was Science, I placed in 2 math and science tourneys in Earth Science, and I won a first place prize in the school Science Fair in 7th grade. In 8th grade I received the Honorable Mention. Despite my varied interests I'm afraid I was the school weirdo :) I started High School at Klein High School, and I took a yearbook class, which i found very exciting (shows you how pathetic i was). Friends and I hung out in the commons area during lunch. I loved Klein, but my mother died of Multple Sclerosis in June and my family moved away from the town that held so many painful memories for my father. In 1993 I started 10th grade at St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. I'd never been to a private school before, but this one was ok. It had alot of the same activities and academics that were present at Klein so it had a familiar feel. Which is good, because it was the first time in my life I had to wear a uniform to school, and attend church services on thursdays in the middle assembly area of the school building. STM was much smaller than Klein though, with about 800 students in 4 grades during my tenure there. I was in drama and debate, choir, video yearbook, and was editor of the literary magazine. I have some good memories and some bad ones from this time period, but overall it was good times. Right after High School I moved into a dorm at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My older boyfriend whom I'd met in 12th grade changed colleges to be with me and in 1997 we married. College was interesting, but the academic aspect ...Expand for more
was fairly minor. I appreciated the classes, but all i wanted was to actually start doing things instead of learning them. I became webmistress for the school Literary Magazine, had a 80s radio show on the campus radio station, and helped found an alternative religion/spirituality organization, after which time i served as the coordinator of that club. I loved camping at Kisatche, and I found a roleplaying game (Vampire: the Masquerade) that was fun and addictive. Eventually I dropped out of classes due to disinterest and tried to find work, but good work is hard to find in Natchitoches, so I moved in with my husband's mother in Norman, Oklahoma and found a job in the Technical Support field. Thus began my career in computers. My marriage didnt go completely as planned, and in 2003 my divorce was finalized. After a few months, I moved to Southern California with my father and his new wife to try to get back on my feet and stuff. A year later I moved into an apartment in Long Beach with a roommate. Around that same time I met a very sweet man named Adam and we got to hanging out alot since he lived nearby, and one thing led to another and we got married on June 16, 2008. He makes me very happy. I worked in IT for 10 years before I decided I couldn't stand it anymore, and Adam encouraged me to go back to school to follow my dreams. I studied Commercial Photography at Long Beach City College for two years and love it. I've done some freelance photography work from time to time, but Adam and I decided to move to his hometown in Minnesota, so I've waited to set up a photography studio until now. In May of 2013 we moved with our 5 cats and 2 reptiles to Northfield, MN, and we have a 12 acre farm right next to his parents' property. We're surrounded by his family and high school friends, and the town is cute and friendly. I'm working on creating my photo studio and business here, which will take some time. I am also raising chickens and have tons of pets, just the way I like it. Adam and I are working towards becoming parents in the near future... so stay tuned! EDITED TO ADD: In December of 2014 I gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Decker Duane, who weighed in at 9 lbs and measured 22inches long! He's 5 now and in his second year of preschool, ready to start Kindergarten in the Fall - he's already reading as if he was born with the ability, does math in his head, and amazes me every day. The pregnancy was tough so if we have any more kids they'll be fosters/adopted.
