Kelly's Story
I live in Florence, Alabama where I am substitute teaching and volunteering at the Children's Museum of the Shoals. I am hoping to soon start a weekly craft and story time activity geared toward preschoolers at the museum. I moved here in the fall of 2007 when my husband received a job as university relations director at the University of North Alabama. He is currently working on a new adverstising campaign that will debut Sept. 5, 2008. Prior to moving here, he was assistant director of public relations at Freed-Hardeman University. He has a bachelor's in English from Freed-Hardeman University, and a master's in technical and professional communication from East Carolina University.
I taught third grade in Middleton, TN before we moved. I have a bachelor's in English from the University of Montevallo, and a master's of education from Freed-Hardeman Univers...Expand for more
ity. I started my career as a newspaper reporter for the State Gazette in Dyersburg, TN, where I reported on education and city government. I also wrote several general feature stories. This job was a lot of fun and adventurous. I loved the fast-pace lifestyle. While living in Dyersburg, I was a volunteer for adult literacy education. I was also a member of International Friends, which helps people moving to the area from other country learn how to do things associated with getting settled such as setting up a bank account and turning on the electricity.
Teaching also provides a lot of adventure and challenge, as well as loads of laughs. I hope to continue teaching full-time next fall. In the mean time, I plan to stay busy substituting and doing volunteer work.
I love to travel. So far my favorite places to visit are London, Paris, New York and Chicago.
