Ken's Story
THIS MESSAGE IS FOR LEDGEMONT H.S.
You probably don't know me. I didn't actually go to your school. I am searching for someone who did though. I'm trying to reconnect or at least get some updates on the fate of Margaret Bender. If you have any recollections or information please email me, even if its just to talk or tell me you don't know.
Thank you.
Ken
FOR CHARDON HIGH
I worked in a paper mill out of school, before I did a stint in the Navy '69-'73. Worked in a custom bike shop. Returned to the paper mill working maintenance. Went to KSU '77-'80 and got my BFA in painting and sculpture, (also a concentration in jewelry and metal smithing). Met my future wife. Was maintenance supervisor for group homes for mentally challenged adults. Got married. Tried my own jewelry business. I did many jobs for a while. I drove truck and made pickups for the Kent Recycling Center, (it grew into Portage County Recycling). I worked as a dental technician in crowns, bridges and implants. I returned to KSU and got my MA in Teaching in '92-'93. Worked as a teacher for the past 17 years in Akron Public Schools as a middle school science teacher. Had two daughters (Zoe in '93 and ...Expand for more
Hannah in '98). I spent a few semesters teaching ("Teaching Science to Children") at Akron U.. I am presently having some health issues and applying for total disability.
I lived in Hawaii, (Navy, Pearl Harbor). Worked at McDonald's fourth largest grossing store (Expert burger flipper). Did marine salvage, commercial fishing, stock car racing, motorcycle racing, skydiving, Medieval re-enacting, Revolutionary War re-enacting, French and Indian War re-enacting, Voyager/Mountain Man re-enacting. I've even been to Louisbourg, Nova Scotia where I got to sing bawdy seafaring songs with the crew of the Bounty, and actually put my but in the same seat as Mel Gibson put his but, when filming the movie"Bounty". I've manned and fired and commanded revolutionary war cannons. I even fired the cannons owners ashes over the James River in Virginia.
Last summer Zoe and I went to New Orleans with the Church Youth Group to finish rebuilding/renovating a home ravaged by Katrina, so that a mother and her two daughters were able to buy their first home.
That's some of the highlights of my life so far. More has happened but I'll save that for other times.
