Ken's Story
Here is a quick life re-cap for any of you "fellow classmates" that give a darn... as we know in High School I did not and I'm sure it was obvious. I was only concerned with myself and my needs... Cars, Bikes, "Partying" & Girls.....
LOVED my time riding in the Mojave Desert... & Racing at Saddle Back Park (RIP), L.A. County Raceway (RIP), Irwindale (RIP), Ascot Park (RIP) & Best of all OCIR! (RIP)
I went to work at "Dependable Auto Repair" in late '74 (with a name like that you just know....) down the Blvd & across the street from "Dial Chevrolet" (RIP)...
I moved out middle of my senior year & not long after graduation I tried my hand at my own business in a rented shop on Whittier blvd, behind "Hacienda Motors" (RIP), just down the street from "Stick City" (RIP)... and "Street Rods" (RIP)... but that only lasted about 6 months...
Went to work for Tommy Baker (RIP) - "Baker Automotive", Paramount in 1976 working on Hot Rods... Thank You Tommy for seeing what this young kid (19) had to offer. My dad told me all that Hot Rodding & Racing would ever do for me was spend my money and hurt or maim me one day.... Still Racing and making a living at "Hot Rodding" today! Ha, Ha Dad!! (RIP)
Moved north in 1979 and spent 3yrs running a small town automotive machine shop before taking over the management of a production engine rebuilder in Stockton in 1982.
I opened "Holiday Engine & Machine" in 1987 on King Island in Stockton but my 1995 divorce led to closing my doors.
I machined engines for Tony Pascoe's "Sebring West Auto Center" in Fresno from 1995 thru 2000... (See Tony's Jobber Handout in my pix) Great guy, Xlnt job but I had "other ideas"...
Just before my Mom died in Jan 2001 & my first ...Expand for more
grandchild was born (Hayli, same week) I started "Ken's Mobile Hot Rod Repair"... I dedicated it's beginning to Mom as she was the one that spurred my love of Hot Rods along. Thank You Mom!
I enjoy my work and it shows.. I have developed a solid reputation, worked with some famous people and on some 'noteworthy' Hot Rods... Been asked to do Museum displays, Re-create some famous race cars...
I restore/repair many makes from the 1920's to the 1970's & do everything from a 1920's Packard carburetor overhaul to complete "Gasser" style Hot Rods...
Spent much of my life (age 13 to 50!) playing with Booze & Drugs... WHEW! Finally got that outta my system!
I went through a few good women & a few not-so-good ones.... Married 3 times, Ugh!
In early 2011 I found Kathleen... #4, a "Hot Rod Chick", and here to stay....
During my Jr High & High School years I spent time each summer in my Great-Uncle's upholstery shop. I added a small upholstery shop to my business in the late 1980's. I have employed various "trimmers" over the years, Kathleen is in charge of it now! She has auto upholstery experience going back to the 1970's.
Since 2013 I have been the Head Tech Official for Stockton's "Delta Speedway" Micro Sprint Race Track, operated by 3 time N.H.R.A. Pro Stock Truck Champion Bob Panella Jr. & his wife Tiffanie.....
In 2015 an opportunity arose for me to purchase the remaining assets of a couple of notable, now defunct Hot Rod Fiberglass parts making companies... Adding Fiberglass Manufacturing to our shop.
January 2024 makes it 23 years as "Ken's Mobile Hot Rod Repair"......
June 17 2023 marks Me -N- Kathleen's 12th year together.....
NOTHING IS EASY, but with a Little Hard Work LIFE IS GOOD!
