Ken's Story

Life Howdy! After getting married for the 3rd time, and leaving Miami in 1992, I traveled around the world, ending up in New Mexico in 1998. Rio Rancho is a great little city and has so many things to offer, especially the mild temps and NO humidity. I gave up full time law enforcement in 1999 and retired from the Navy Reserve in 2002. I started with Intel Corp. in 2000 and am now an Automation Engineer, integrating the latest technology, in one if Intel's largest fabs. I have three great kids. My oldest son, Cody, graduated from Quapaw HS in 2004 and my daughter attends Rio Rancho Elementary school. Baby Joseph (Joey) was born April 20, 2005. I still like to collect and shoot tactical firearms, love to scuba (though there's not much water in NM), and off road in the H2. I graduated from National American University in Rio Rancho with a BS in Applied Management. I still try to make it back to Miami a couple of times a year. Usually for Christmas/New Years and around the 4th of July. Hope to C'ya sometime! School I don't have too many fond memories from High School. I wasn't into sports and spent my Jr and Sr years between school and vo-tech in Afton. I started working after school in Jr High so I had no time for after school activities or sports. My best memories are of the night life during my high school years. I had some sweet girlfriends, drank way too much, and had a hellofa time! College I tried going to NEO in 1985 but Cody came along and was the priority. I've always known that getting a degree was important so I kept working at it over the years. I did most of my Associates in Okianwa attending night classes at Central Texas College (Asian Div). I went back "part time" in 2004 to complete a BS in Management in 2007. If I go back, I'll probably get my MBS but would really like to attend law school. Workplace I spent most of my life in law enforcement in NE Oklahoma. It was a great job in a beautiful area and I hope to return someday.. maybe when I have some retirement income to supplement what law enforcement pays. I worked for the military as a Detective, and later as a Security Manager, on the beautiful island of Okinawa Japan from 1993-1997. I was also a reservist so mixed civilian work with several periods of active duty. It was a good experience in diversity and introduction to a better standard of living on a management salary. All good things come to an end though and we moved to New Mexico in 1998. I initially continued my law enforcement career with the Corrales NM Police Dept but in 1999 I had the opportunity to begin a new career. I started with Intel Corp as a Manufacturing Tech in Fab 11 Planarization then went to Oregon for training in 2001-2002. I returned to NM to help start up Fab 11X, the first Intel 300mm high volume fab. In 2003 I became a Software Tech with NM Automation supporting all of the automation systems for the NM Site. I was an Automation Engineer in the Fab 11X Intrabay Engineering Gro...Expand for more
up until 2007 when our group was merged with the Process Flow Integration (PFI) Group. Was an Auto Engineer working more with configuring the software used to run the factory until 2009 when I moved back "home". In 2002, I retired from the Navy Reserves after 22 years (13 ARNG & 9 USNR). I miss the world travel and excitement but I guess I've done my time. To show my thanks to the men and women who have served before me, I provided Funeral Honors with the New Mexico Honor Guard. I'm not sure what I'll be when I grow up but should be fairly well educated and a "Jack of All Trades" by then. Military I joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1980 and attended Basic Training at Ft. Benning GA. shortly thereafter. I was a member of Co. B 1/279 INF in Miami OK and served as a TOW Gunner, Mortarman, and Infantry Fire Team Leader. I probably learned the most about war fighting tactics during a 2 or 3 year assignemnt at the Co Commander's driver and radio operator. That assignment probably kept me from being promoted to E6 but it was a great job anyway. I was on the NG Marksmanship Team and AWOL Recovery Team. I also served as the Recruiting & Retention NCO and NBC NCO. I was awarded the Medal of Valor and Meritorious Service Medal. I transitioned over to the Navy Reserve in 1993 as an E5 Master-At-Arms. It was a great move as I went all over the world sharing my law enforcement experience with military members. Most memorable assignments were to New York during the 2000 4th of July & Fleet Week celebration working with the Secret Service, FBI, NYPD, etc. and was the night shift watch commander on Command Center Security. I went to Puerto Rico during the protests over the Vieques live fire range and made a good target for the locals to throw rocks. I was in Bahrain during Southern Watch doing force protection and in Japan as the Chief Master At Arms of an active Navy installation for a while. I was brought on active duty for the internationally televised protests over forced land leasing in Japan. The focus of the protests were over a parcel of land on our facility and we went to Threatcon Delta for a short period. My last, and most memorable assignment was in New Orleans as a Watch Commander for the Armed Forces Police Det. working out of the French Quarter (District 8) Police HQ during Super Bowl and Mardi Gras 2002. I also spent 22 days on the USS Blue Ridge during the joint forces UFL exercise around Korea (my only sea duty). I don't have many good memories of the National Guard except the great men I served with. We generally went to Camp Gruber in OK or Ft Chaffee in AR and lived in the woods for 2 weeks training. I guess I enjoyed the Urban Warfare School at Ft Bragg and JRTC at Ft Chaffee (where I was assigned as a combat MP). I also enjoyed traveling around shooting in the pistol and rifle matches. I enjoyed military law enforcement and had a hard time retiring in 2002... but I had done my time and needed to focus on career and family.
