Ken's Story
Our senior year I started working in old town Monta Vista for a fire sprinkler company doing drafting, pipe fitting and installation, worked there for 4 years. After high school, I spent 4 years at De Anza, no declared major and therefor no degree. However because of being in the machine tool technology program, I was able to get a job through a friend at a medical device compnay in Mt View. Worked there for 5 years, became an accomplished machinist. Also met my wife and her 2 sons and got married. Then was offered a job to set up a shop for another medical device company, design tooling and machinery to assemble / manufacture the products. Family moved to Manteca (3 now) and I commuted from Manteca to Redwood City for 5 years. In 1990 the company set-up manufacturing in Temecula (between Riverside and San Diego). We moved (all 4 of us) to the high desert west of Palm Springs. During this time I became acquainted with a type of equipment known as a braider (these make everything from medical devices, shielded cable, rope and composit...Expand for more
e (carbon, quartz, kevlar, etc.) structures)and the owner of the US distribution company saw some of the insane thing I had designed. In 1996 he offered me a position in Steeger USA to design new equipment, new braiding products and techniques and train our customers. This required a slight relocation from Southern California to South Carolina. This has been a genuine blessing in the with new ownership (5 years ago), we are bringing more of the manufacturing of the equipment to the US, establishing a new division to manufacture braided products and develop manufacturing equipment and processes for our customers. We have customers all across the US, England, Ireland, France, Japan, China and Australia. So far I have had the chance to visit all of these countries except Australia. All of our children live within a hour of us, so summers are busy with everyone coming here to swim and eat. My wife is a mangaer at the local hospital, she went to college after we moved back here and has a BS in nursing and will be continuing for her masters.
