Ken's Story
My dearest Helen... (I'm responding to a post from Helen Dixon who asked that I "Tell My Story.")
Maybe over time I will reveal the many pages of the many chapters of my sojourn through this thing called life. But, today, importantly, all that matters is my Helen Griffith tale.
There we were, Helen and I, in first grade at Townsend Street School. Mr. Frank LaBudde was the principal...don't remember our teacher from that grade, however. Ms. Griffith was a tall, willowy sort...soaring over almost every other child in the class as I remember. She had such a lovely smile and seemed to float on air as angel might on her way down the aisle to the black board. She captured my heart...for how long, I don't recall..."crushes" bac kthen could last for minutes or maybe even days! Her father was a Minister at the Presbyterian church across the street and somehow that made her kind of "other worldly" in my mind, a...Expand for more
dding to her mystique and allure. Ah, Helen was almost the fondest memory of my first grade days. You see...I had a spelling prowess and students were asked to seek my advice on spelling words when necessary, a duty assigned by an obviously astute teacher ( ;+) ).
Flash forward to a chance meeting some thirty years later when she reappeared in life at of all places, the 8th floor restaurant atop downtown Gimbels. I guess it's true, a leopard doesn't change it's spots, as Helen still flashed an engaging smile and walked with the gait of woman who demonstrated the proper amount of self-esteem.
And now, nearly another three decades or so later, once again, there is Helen...and lo and hold, she is toting what I believe quite an irony. She is now a Dixon, the very maiden name of bethroed. Geez...it is a small world!
And now you know the rest of the story!, Ms. Helen, my mythical Queen of Mt. Olympia.
