Kenneth's Story

Life I left La Grange in 1978 and went to Sonoma County Ca where I worked in a winery and for a beverage distributor until 1981-82. I got married during these years and divorced in 1985. I spent 83-84 in Illinois during the divorce activity doing much of nothing, I did some painting at that time; mostly watercolor. I travelled back to Santa Rosa (same county) in 85 and spent a year there. I moved to Portland OR in 86 and lived the next 6 years working and living in the "Burnside District" with homeless people. I found this to be a great education. I enjoyed my time in Oregon, did alot of pencil art, some soul searching, found I really had one. I don't want to over-glamorize the work I did in Portland. I was a night manager in a funded public housing building and did alot of janitor and maintenance work. This also left me interactive with the local community as a manager and ally to services and alternatives to homelessness. I left in 91 and lived the next year on a different level with the community as a homeless volunteer as I travelled a little. Never underestimate what you have. If you make life a little more pleasant for the people around you; you win. There is no more than life. In 1992 I went to Kansas City, Kansas and while there answered an ad that landed me a job in Yellowstone National Park. I did some dishes, bussed, and waited tables in the summers...Expand for more
, flipped burgers in the winter, and began a job in Personnel/Human Resources that I continue to work at today. I own a house not far from the park with a nice lady that doesn't want her name mentioned here. The area is magnificent for outdoor activity. It isn't as cold as people think, I remember the mid-western winters as cold or colder. I have too many cats to count and they travel in and out of the house through a modified window with a pet door where they play outdoors in a 400+ square foot enclosure enjoying the weather, full moon and whatever cats enjoy. It can be quite exciting in the night when they re-enter with a mouse to show any sleeping homebodies. I keep 2 enlarged (fat) version of this animal in my YNP housing with me and they are satisfied with that. I also advocate humane handling of mice; the feline method is ugly and can stain carpet. I don't smoke cigarettes anymore, I got drunk once, I still have hair on my head, don't have any money and have travelled some good long distance on bicycle and foot for "just something to do." My greatest adventure may have been an 18 day backpack trip through the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico with a friend from Yellowstone. I don't know, after all that wandering around I tend to lose track of what is adventureous or great. Drop me a line; I'll be 59 in 2016 and enjoy being alive, I hope you do too. Peace! Ken

I sometimes scroll through the Publisher Clearinghouse email and enter to win (🤡). I took this from their offerings. Of all I can think of to say about it, I'll title it "Roast Chicken; Onapotty"
Enjoy!

A soul knows where it's been
I want to feel my spirit lifted up
And catch my breath again
Lay me down in the river
And wash this place away
Break me down like sand from a stone
Maybe I'll b
