Kenneth's Story

Life Greetings, fellow Bulldogs! Sorry I couldn’t make it to the last reunion. I was living in Texas and my job didn’t allow me time to get away. So what have I been up to for the past eleven years? On September 7 1993, I arrived at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) in San Antonio, Texas where I began Basic Training to become an enlisted airman in the United States Air Force. Originally, I was slated to be sent to Fairchild AFB, Washington to become a Global Survival Instructor. Survival instructors do things like teach interrogation techniques and train pilots how to escape, evade and survive in many different climates. On my last day of Basic Training the Air Force found that my aptitude lay in Electronic Intelligence because of my math and science scores on the ASVAB test. I guess I learned something from Mr. Saludis’s class other than how to check my eyelids. So, I left San Antonio for San Angelo, Texas where I received apprentice level training in Electronic Intelligence (or as my comrades call it, ELINT) at Goodfellow AFB. On completion of my training at Goodfellow AFB, I was transferred to Osan Air Base (AB), Republic of Korea. Osan is located about thirty to forty-five minutes south of Seoul. I spent a year at Osan as an operational ELINT analyst. While at Osan, I took some college courses offered at an overseas campus of the University of Maryland. After Korea, I came back to the states in March 1995 where I spent the next seven years at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio doing technical ELINT analysis at the National Air Intelligence Center (now the National Air and Space Intelligence Center). During my time at Wright-Patt, I did temporary duty at places like the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency. I have spent time in Huntingdon, England for training on my way to Adana, Turkey. I also spent some time at sea during a treaty mission and was lucky enough to port in Japan and Singapore. While in Japan, I visited Tokyo, Misawa, Yokohama and Yokosuka. Other places I have seen are Hong Kong and the lovely Pacific Ocean. My most notable temporary duty assignment was as the Chief of the EL...Expand for more
INT Branch, Operation Northern Watch at Incirlik AB, Turkey. I was temporarily stationed at Incirlik during 9/11 and I worked in support of the effort during Operation Enduring Freedom, which was the name of the operation in Afghanistan and is also used the name for the operation for the Global War on Terrorism. On a more personal note, I met my first wife at Wright-Patt in 1997 after returning from my sea-going mission. We married in 1998. Unfortunately, or fortunately, however you look at it, we divorced in August 2000. I spent the next two years coasting along. I received notification of my most recent assignment and last location, Goodfellow AFB, Texas in April 2002. I had come full circle, all the way back to San Angelo where I spent my work days as an ELINT analyst instructor in the apprentice level course. In my off time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing sports and reading. I met my current wife at Goodfellow where she was a military flight personnelist (I call them secretaries) during her Air Force years. I am married to the former Kelly Anne Rohrs of Toledo, Ohio (where most of the Northington side of the family is from coincidentally). My wife and I have a beautiful son, Ethan Kane, and two beautiful daughters, Callista Suzanne and Lillian Eileen Northington. When I’m not at work or spending time with the family, my hobbies are golf, tennis, basketball, softball, volleyball, running, weight-lifting and reading about history. I am currently stationed at the Pentagon and live in Washington, D.C., so if you’re ever in the area, look me up. I’d like to hear from all of you, so drop me a line sometime. I hope you are all doing well in your lives. Take care and God Bless. Military I have been in the military for almost 12 years now. I am a TSgt in the Air Force and I have been to South Korea, England, Hong Kong, Tokyo (and various others in Japan), Singapore, Wright-Patterson AFB (Dayton, OH), Goodfellow AFB (San Angelo, TX), and Turkey to mention a few places. I am currently working at the Pentagon and I live in Washington, D.C. with my beautiful wife and two beautiful little girls.
