Kenneth's Story
Life
After graduation, enlisted in the Army for 3 years, spent 21 months stationed in Homewood, Ill. Then Thule Greenland for 1 year. Married Ruby Wilkins from Louisville, Ill in May 1963. we have 3 children 2 girls 1 boy, and 17 grandchildren and 4 step- grandchildren.
On July 5th 2003 we bought THE HILL Restaurant in Bellville, Texas. On July 8th we were told THE HILL had been voted to have the best hamburgers in Austin County Texas, probably the best in state also. We sold our restaurant April 2013 and moved to the farm in Southern , Illinois. We picked a really great winter to move back north, wow.
We have lived in Atlanta, Ga 11 years, Houston twice for 9 Years, and Midland, Texas 13 years. Worked in same office building as young George Bush.
Moments to remember, Giving Reba Mcintyre a hug back stage. Ruby got to hug Brooks and Dunn. And having dinner with Davey Allison and his wife.
College
I attended Dekalb (pronounced de cab) parttime from 1973 until mid 1976...Expand for more
10 credit hours per semester. Also worked 40 hours a week at Texaco and 20 hours parttime at Sears.
It was a good thing I was young back then!!!! I did not graduate as I ran out of steam after 1 year of credits.
But it was fun while it lasted.
Workplace
Was in U.S. Army from Sep 1959 until sep 1962. After the Army I went to work for the 1st National Bank of Chicago for 9 months.
Left the bank and went to work for Gilbert & Bennett Mfg. Co. in Blue Island. I quit that job in March 1967, and yes I made it home during the snowstorm of 67. Went to work for Texaco, Inc. May 3rd 1967 and retired from Texaco 4/1/1998. Texaco moved us from Chicago to Atlanta, Ga in 1970. To Houston, Texas in 1981, and to Midland Texas in August 1987.
We moved back to Houston to be closer to Grandchildren. I worked for 2 years at A-1 Mobile homes as Customer Service Mgr and then Albertsons as a cashier until May of 2002.
