Kenneth's Story

LIFE Got married in 1954 to Mary Dixie Williams. Had 5 children. 3 girls and 2 boys. I have 4 grandchildren in the United States. I joined IBM in 1957, retired in 2001 the holder of 8 patents and many awards. In 1988, I separated from Mary D.ixie Wilson. We were divorced in 2001. In 1990 I had an IBM research project in Switzerland. While in Switzerland I met my future wife, Erika Strasser. Erika and I got married in 2002 and we live just outside of Zurich, Switzerland in the small town of Kuesnacht (Küsnacht). Erika has two girls, one lives in Switzerland (2 children) and one lives in England (3 children). We traveled a lot, including going to the United States including California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, New York, and especially to North Carolina. We have also visited Canada, England, Cypress, Germany, Israel, Italy, France, and Spain. A SAD NOTE number 1: 2010 2010 started on a low note with the death of my youngest son Wayne (49). Wayne leaves a lovely partner Jill and their young son William. Wayne was a people person. My youngest daughter, Mary, had a saying about Wayne: Wayne knew everybody in Raleigh, North Carolina. My wife and I came from Switzerland and many North, Carolina friends came to tell all present how Wayne had affected their lives and to sadly send him off to a better place. A SAD NOTE number 2: 2012 2012 had another low note with the death of my middle daughter Dawn (53). Dawn leaves a grown daughter Amanda who is a mother of twins and one Son. Dawn had a lot of influence on her brother and sister and was the financial expert of our family. We ...Expand for more
send Dawn off to a better place. The unfortunate part of her death was that my wife and I were both sick and unable to attend Dawn's funeral. A SAD NOTE number 3: 2013 2013 had another low note with the death of my oldest child Kenneth Jr. (57). Kenny leaves a wife but had no children. Kenny was loved by his brother and sisters and had lots of friends belonging to many races - anyone was his friend and if you need help he was there. We send Kenneth (better known as Mongo) off to a better place. The unfortunate part of his death was that my wife and I were again both sick and unable to attend Kenny's funeral. A SAD NOTE number 4: 2013 Also, 2013 had a low note when my wife, Erika, had a major stroke on 26 July (the day after my 80th birthday). Fortunately, Erika did recover somewhat but with a major impact upon her eyes (each eye has half vision both on the left side). Erika and I have been struggling with her condition. I have learned to become the "wife" (I have also found out how difficult being a wife can be) and husband to my lovely wife. MILITARY I went to Basic Training in Fort Knox, KY in 1954. I then went to a technical school in Fort Monmouth, NJ to learn Microwave communication theory and equipment. I then transferred to the US Signal Corp in Augusta, GA where I worked on advanced communication equipment and taught microwave communication theory and the equipment that the US Army was using in 1956. I was honorably discharged by the US Army in 1956 and released from my obligation in July 1964. Unfortunately, Erika passed away in May 25th,2023 due to a fled operation,
