Kenneth (Ken)'s Story
Life
Where do I begin... After spending a year at UNC in Greeley I moved back home to reassess my life and after a couple years of thinking moved to Southern California in 1989. I moved in with Erica Froelich (whom I lived with for 2 years). I moved in with my now ex-partner in 1991 (we split in 2002).
I met my current BF 2 years ago and we are both very happy right now. We are currently planning our future.
After High School I tried to continue the acting thing, but decided I wasn't dedicated enough to pursue it regularly. I have taken up writing and photography as my creative outlet and hope to parlay them into something more than a hobby.
I am currently working in the fashion industry, Guess? Jeans Inc. as Visual Purchasing Coordinator. I love my job and it has spurred me on to return to school to pursue my degree in Graphic Design.
If you meet me on the street you probably won't recognize me... no hair (been shaving my head for a few years now), more weight (but it is coming off again) and lots more attitude, not at all the semi-shy guy I was in High School.
Now that I am approaching 40 I have decided to get off my lazy butt and stop complaning about my weight and do something about it. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and ride my bicycle every day, as of this typing I am down 30 pounds and looking terrific (...Expand for more
feeling better too). My first goal is to run in the 2007 LA Marathon. My second goal is to do the AIDS Lifecycle bike ride (from San Francisco to Los Angeles) in 2008. I have an amazing new outlook on life and am really enjoying myself.
School
It seems that all of my friends and most of my teachers knew I was gay in HS (I wasn't exactly hiding it). Since I knew at such a young age, HS was a difficult time for me. There were no Gay/Straight Student Alliances or clubs for gay youth like there is now. I really envy kids today having that. I might not have been so shy and scared all the time if I had had others to talk to, or even been able to go out on dates like the straight kids.
But I still managed to make it through school with relatively few scars.
My biggest crush in school was Jeff Wetrosky, a crush I shared with Marla Cootware. So much so that I took her to the prom so we could both check out Jeff in his Tux. LOL
My second biggest crush in HS was Steve Craig. We were friends but not close until much more recently.
I loved my little group of friends I hung out with Erica Froelich, Kim Wallendorff, Ben Curtis, Tim Purvis (RIP), Steve Craig, Mark (aka Marque) Fallon. We were the strange/odd kids that none of the cool kids wanted to be seen with.
My favorite teachers were Mrs. Miller & Mrs. Van Der Veer.
