Kerry's Story
Life
Graduated from Malone College 1969. After graduation began Master of Divinity degree in Kentucky September 1969. Married Velma Finnicum (of Louisville, OH) 1970. First son, Aaron was born while we were in Kentucky. Dropped out of school, returned to Ohio. Couple of years later went back to seminary, finished MDiv at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH in 1975. Was ordained a United Methodist minister in June 1975. Began pastoring two rural United Methodist churches in Carroll County, OH. Our second son, Andrew, was born on our first son's birthday July 9 -- first one in 1971, second one in 1976. Eventually we left Ohio for more school in Washington D.C. and also to accept an officer commission as an Army chaplain in 1979. Lived in Alexandria, Virginia; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Germany; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Herlong, California. Eventually returned to Ohio. Appointed by my bishop to pastor United Methodist Church of the Cross in East Springfield, OH (1990-1998). Appointed to Christ United Methodist...Expand for more
Church in Cleveland, OH (1998-2008). While appointed to Christ UMC I retired from the Army in February 2000. In December 2000 Velma was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She died on August 5th, 2003.
We loved living in California (1986-1990) and Germany (1981-1985). Missouri, Washington DC and New Jersey were also great. Cleveland and Lake Erie were very nice.
In 2005 I married Rev. Cynthia Theobald. She is a pastor also. I moved to Peninsula, OH where Cindy was pastor of the United Methodist Church there and commuted to Christ UMC. She was appointed to the Simpson United Methodist Church in Canton, OH in 2008.. We lived in the parsonage her church provides in Canton, OH and I commuted to Minerva where our bishop appointed me. So, I was back in Canton, of all places.
July 1, 2011 I retired from the church. Cindy was still pastoring the Simpson United Methodist Church in Canton, so we were still there.
July 1, 2016 our bishop appointed Cindy to the Solon United Methodist Church. Nice suburb of Cleveland. Enjoy being back in Cuyahoga County.
