Kevin's Story
I've been passionate about the natural environment beginning with family camping trips. Inspiring teachers in high school that helped me develop life-long interests - especially Frank Hutchison in biology, Bob Herbig in music, and Ed Banks in US history. Graduated environmental science and biology at Wazzu, managed to land wonderful summer research jobs with the US Forest Service lab in Fairbanks, later worked for US EPA in Seattle, then went to Oregon State U to study forest ecology in interior Alaska and vegetation recovery at Mt St Helens after the eruption. orest nutrition on tree productivity. Met my future wife there, then did post-doctoral work in tree physiology and nutrition at UBC in Vancouver (when not morris dancing with the Vancouver Morris Men!), Canadian Forest Service in Sault Ste Marie Ontario (when not shifting snow or cross-country skiing!), then back to beautiful Vancouver Island BC where we've been since. I do forestry-related research and consulting, love cycling and hiking, and am active in urban forest and environmental policy development. I'm excited about intelligent management of organic wastes, urban forests, and minimizing the damage from climate change. And have two adult children who I am extremely proud of and who put up with me! It's been an interesting journey!!
