Kevin's Story
Kevin R. Cariato is Director of White House Mail and Messenger Operations, and an Assistant to President Barack H. Obama for Equality and Human Rights. Prior to that, he served as Mail and Messenger Operations Manager to Barack Obama's Campaign for the presidency.
Since 2003, Cariato has been a Senior Executive with Shipment Solutions¿ Inc., and the UPS Store Inc., both based in Chicago. In that capacity, he managed the day to day global shipping operations of several retail locations, with a focus
on staff management, policy development and implemenation, and customer service and satisfaction.
In 1994, after devoting fifteen years to the Chicago Police Exploring Program, Cariato joined the Chicago Police Department as a Patrolman. During his years of service to the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, he was awarded the Carter

Active in charitable work in Chicago, Cariato has supported and served on the boards of the Fairygodmother Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, Howard Brown Foundation, Children¿s Memorial Hospital Foundation, and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
Cariato was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 19, 1970, to Lawrence A. Cariato Sr. a decorated Vietnam Veteran, who retired from Chicago¿s Tempel Steel Company after 30 years of service; and Kathleen Cariato, a mother, counselor, mentor, and friend, who has dedicated her life to her children. Together with his brother Lawrence Jr., and sister Kimberly, attended Alexander Graham Bell Elementary, and St. Benedict High School. He went on to earn his Associate¿s Degree in Political Science from DePaul university, and his Bachelor¿s degree in Criminal Law from Chicago-Kent School of law.
Cariato is devoted to his partner of 14 years, David Michalski, their daughter Jennifer, and granddaughter Brooklyn.
