THE HISTORY OF A THING IS COMPLETELY UP TO THOSE WHO WRITE IT:
A word about my dad (after all, I was a faculty brat), Rev. Raymond M. O'Brien: SA founding faculty. Helped start and open the school with Fr. Wyatt-Brown (the first headmaster), and Gene Curtis (the second). Head of the Language Department, chaplain, taught Latin, French and Theology. SA Chaplain Emeritus (1962-1975). Now virtually forgotten, and overlooked regarding SA's founding and history. His contributions to SA were left out of the "semi-official" school history, both the book and the movie (later explained as oversight), prompting several who knew my dad to protest. tributions should not be ignored or forgotten. I've since been told that there is a small plaque of some sort somewhere in the chapel offices on which his name appears. I guess that's considered adequate recognition. So far the good folks at SA have ignored my pleas over the years to remember and honor him as he deserves. Maybe someday, but if not relatively soon he will likely be lost to history since he was left out of it.
Even people at SA who've been there for decades had no knowledge that our father was responsible for the chikee chapel. When the new one was built no one in the family was invited to the dedication. These are black marks at the more intimate, family level of the school's history.
