Kevin's Story

Life NAVY Chicago, Florida then California USS Blueback a submarine, now a museum in Oregon Sailed the Pacific Ocean. Visiting ports some of my favorites were Oregon, Washington State, Alaska, Mexico, South America (Various), western Pacific where we visited the reaming ports. During this time I married Debbie, (May 11th, 1985) who was my girlfriend during high school and Justine was born. New assignment in Norfolk Virginia assigned to the Admirals Yacht as the engineer serving a diplomatic and public relations duty that provided transportation and entertainment to the top officials of the Navy and Government. Our more famous guests included President Bush and his Wife, King Hussein (Jordan), Senators and Congressional Leaders. During this duty Megan was born. I then transferred to submarine USS Jacksonville, also stationed in Virginia. My journey of the eastern oceans began. We sailed several 6 and 3-month deployments on the Atlantic, Artic, Mediterranean Sea and Antarctic oceans. We visited many countries and my favorites were Italy, France, Gibraltar, Germany, Greece, Spain and Scotland. One deployment we left on 1/22. Katie Ann was born on 1/25 (My Birthday) she was 6 months old before I first saw her. I transferred duty stations, first to San Antonio Texas for law enforcement training (Police Academy) then back to Norfolk as a brig officer (Deputy Sheriff / Assistant Warden) at the Naval Brig. We housed over 200 inmates and were the only facility on the east coast that was capable of housing female inmates. Initially I was one of the Brig Officers (Wardens), but requested transfer to the vocational training facility and became a re-habilitation officer and vocational supervisor. During this duty assignment Genevieve was born. This was my last assignment in the Navy and I retired I moved back to Michigan after my retirement and initially worked as the CIS Officer for a local company. iring IT staff and offers IT solutions for the business community, this company was sold in 2005 and I opened another similar company specializing in Medical and Dental systems and compliance. (ANC Technology) I began teaching Vocational Education and Public Speaking and continue both to this day. I ran for public office during the 2005 Primary Election and lost by 11 votes I closed ANCT and have taken on a full time teaching position with a electrical company as their lead trainer and public relations person. Ironically I was also offered a teaching position at the same time from OCC and I currently do both. Thanks for reading.. Kevin Military Some of my most profound memories of the military are also the memories that helped me onto the path of who I am today. Losing Friends – One of the most painful experiences ever was serving with a close friend for several years, and then the next day he is gone. To a new duty station, new life out of the navy or whatever.. As the years went on in the navy it became harder to make close friends. Not because they weren’t there; but, instead it was just to hard to loose them again. I still keep in touch with people from the navy, but nothing can replace that initial friendship when we served together. Failure – Generally not an option when you are in the service, those who could did and was advanced, those who couldn’t were let go. In the summer of 1983 I was ‘let go’ from the naval nuclear program. I was young, stubborn, and impervious to failure. The day I was ‘let go’, is the day I grew up. From that point forward, I was determined to learn everything about my environment and excel at all that I tried. I continue that approach today. Arrogance – Everybody can and will be replaced, I learned and practiced that everybody deserved the same chance. The better my subordinates were treated and recognized. The better I looked. Thanks – Joe, Barney, Howard, Joe Lugi – Thank you for your time and investment into me, and for helping me to become me.
