Kevin's Story
Life
Moved to Utah in '89, chasing after some new adventure. Tried the college thing, ran out of money. Got a job to support the skiing and mountain biking habits. Fell for someone at work, got married, went to work at Novell. Bailed off the sinking ship and followed a few crazy guys into a startup company. Wrote some software, had a couple kids. Worked too much. Found snowmobiling even more fun that jet skis. Worked too much again. Spun company off. Worked some more. Had another kid. Got divorced (hmm, wonder if it was all the working?). Blamed divorce on the yearbook trauma from high school (jk Mr. Shuman). Hated Utah, wanted to move to So Cal -- no luck. Got remarried, had another kid (finally a little girl). Still in Utah with 4 kids -- 3 boys, 1 girl... Found yearbook buried in boxes in the garage, pulled it out. Kids laughed at me for 3 days. Oh, the memories... But hey, life is good.
College
Went to BYU for 3 years. Co...Expand for more
mpiled $300 worth of parking tickets, probably my biggest accomplishment there ;) Didn't care, it was Mom's car (mine was in shop). Never finished school, got too caught up in work. Maybe someday?
Workplace
Went to work for Computers Made Easy in Utah, then over to Novell doing computer network stuff. Then got a bit worried about Novell and took off with 3 guys to help build a startup computer testing company called KeyLabs. Me and 2 other guys wrote some software to control the lab and spun off a sister company called Altiris in 1998. Altiris went public in 2002.
Altiris acquired a few companies after going public. I'm still there, currently responsible for software architecture throughout the company, consisiting of 8 different development groups in 5 countries.
Update: Symantec acquired Altiris in April 2007 and I'm now in charge of the software architecture elements within the Endpoint Management group within Symantec.
