Kim's Story
Life
I'm single (again!) and it's great. It is so much better to be on your own than in a relationship that just isn't working. I've been there twice. However, I can honestly say that it's easier being single this time in my forties, than it was the first time, in my twenties. I know who I am now and I like me, so there isn't that internal pressure to be part of a couple.
Over the years, I've not only had many jobs, but many different careers. Right now I'm the GM of a finance company, the Business Manager of a car dealership, the Property Manager for some apts in Toronto and I do paralegal work for other dealers. During the '06 municipal election, I was the campaign manager of a Scarborough council candidate. Oh well, I like to keep busy!
I live in Ajax with my kids. My son is 23 and works for HP and my daughter, 21, just finished college. I figure they'll be out on their own within the next couple of years.
My parents still live in Markham, so I visit regularly. I am always shocked to see how much i...Expand for more
t's grown since we were kids. I remember taking the bus from my house in Unionville to school, along Hwy 7, and there being very little to see. Just lots and lots of empty fields. Now almost every inch is filled in.
I've been sitting here trying to figure out what to write about how I have fun. The truth is I spend most of my time, when I'm not working, relaxing. I watch a fair bit of TV (favs: Prison Break, Medium, House and Boston Legal) or movies. I am still a huge fan of music and I love to sing and dance. For a while, a couple of years ago, I sang a lot on stage with both a live band and, of course, I did the karaoke thing. I go out to a couple of local bars - one to watch bands or the other, just to dance.
When I was in high school, like most people, I had a vision of what my future would be. Well, my real life hasn't been anything like that vision. It's actually been a whole lot more interesting and exciting than I dreamed it would be. I can't say it's been easy, but it has been extremely rewarding.
