Kim's Story
Life
Living in a NE suburb of Fort Worth, Texas (moved here in Feb 2002). I recently lost my job at the church and that was a blessing! I am now working at a tiny printing company and it is stress-free. Love it. I am working alot of overtime, and once I can get the schedule under control, I will be finishing my degree to become a science teacher. Following that, the plan is to get a Masters of Library Science. I'd really like to do special archival collections. I enjoy graphic design, but many reasons to leave that field. And the teaching thing has been something in the works for a while. But other life stuff comes first. Added a cat to the family. Kaia is about to turn 16 in a few months. Driving down here is an adventure for someone with experience. Makes the thought of her driving extra nerve-wracking. Planning a trip to Cleveland the first week of June 2007, and planning attending the 20-year reunion, yikes! Still leading covenant group, still teaching Native philosophy to middle schoolers. Involved in a women's circle based on Native teachings - a clan. I have completely changed from a restless, gotta-get-out-of-the-house person to a homebody. th high school, but mom and sis and her family will still be here, so you never know. (Mar 2007)
I'm working as a Graphic Designer (Media Director) for a large, liberal United Methodist Church, following over nine years in the health insurance industry. My daughter is 15 and in high school. Also living with boyfriend, dog, and hamster. Life is very, very good. Little nieces are growing fast! I facilitate a covenant group focusing on exploration of personal religious experience and expression, attend a women's lodge based on Native teachings, and I teach Middle School Sunday School, at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Worth. (7 Dec 2006).
Workplace
After a long and lucrative stint in the health insurance business, I finally decided what I wanted to be when I grew up. About 5 or 6 months after I moved to Texas and couldn't find a job because of the crappy economy, I decided to take advantage of the time off and go back to school. I finished school for Graphic Design and Illustration in November 2003 and got a job in May 2004 doing exactly what I want. I work with wonderful people for a company that values its employees. Although the pay is less than half of what I used to make, everything else about the job makes it worthwhile.
