Kim's Story

Life The info below is outdated: I've been disability since 2003 with a neurological condition, but I love to paint, spend time with my family, friends and dogs and stay active in my church. What I USED to do is below! Kim P.S. I got married in 2007 and we just celebrated our first anniverary. The photo in my profile was taken at the Georgia football game in the fall of 2006, about three weeks after I got hit by a car while I was in a crosswalk. I'd been planning to march with the Flags in the UGA alumni band for months, and I wouldn't let a broken leg stop me! I'm an Executive Producer for CNN in Atlanta. My shows are CNN Saturday/Sunday Morning with Miles O'Brien and Kyra Phillips. Prior to that, I worked for CNN International for the last several years, and was a Supervising Producer for World News and a travel show. I spent two years in the London bureau, but I'm now back and live in Henry County. I live in the McDonough historic district near the square and I have two wonderful golden retrievers. In 1996, Peachtree Publishers published the book I co-authored,"Archival Atlanta." If you know me and remember me, say 'hi' and I'll fill you in on the rest! I'd especially love to hear from former band members and newspaper staffers. FIll in the blank stuff: How do I hope my old friends remember me? I just hope they remember! I always wanted to be a TV star when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a hilarious idea. As it turns out, they were wrong and my first "real" job was on the air as a TV reporter. I actually wanted to be "Batgirl" in the "Batman" TV show, but I guess doing the news was sort of close. (I'm just plugging in the answers to weird questions this web site is giving me.) Exercise is how I blow off steam. My favorite way to relax is to just chill after working out really hard. What's the wildest thing I ever did in school? Virtually nothing because I was such a straight arrow. But I did skip Driver's Ed one day (or two) and go to Burger King with my friends. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a chance to be creative, cooperative co-workers, and decaf coffee breaks to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Do I have a hero? Jesus, who else? But an imperfect human hero would be Joni Earaekson Tada. Check out her devotional "Pearls of Great Price." It will help you deal with any of the struggles you've been dealing with. Where have I lived? After college, I moved to Alabama (Montgomery and Birmingham) then back to Georgia then to London (England) and back to Georgia. All the moves were for work. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is xxxx xxxx, because we used to be friends but drifted apart. If you think xxxx xxxx is you, then get in touch!! I am wild about Golden Retrievers (so is my husband, and I'm wild about him too.) To see ours go to dogs (dot) kimunderwood (dot) com We recently lost one of them, Bailey, to cancer. Cancer is a horrible thing. What's my biggest surprise in life? Waiting until 45 to get married and of course actually finding the man of my dreams. I hardly dated when I was younger because I was too shy (and no one asked!!!) I was actually surprised when someone recently said I was really pretty in high school. I never thought of myself that way and no one told me. I had a lot of self-confidence in my abilities, but not in my looks. You see this with teenagers today: they are really viscious about destroying each other's self-esteem. "Friends" said some really horrible, hurtful things to me when I was in high school and it took a while to get over it. It's long been forgiven and forgotten (except when I'm writing something like this.) I know I must have been un...Expand for more
kind or even mean myself, and if I was horrible to you I'm asking for your forgiveness. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the whole thing and add on a outdoor kitchen. My dream home would be in the mountains with a beautiful view. I'm not a parent, unless you count doggie kids! Which teacher would I love to see again and why? You know, I CANNOT REMEMBER HER NAME!! It was my eighth grade English teacher. I really blossomed creatively in that class. I have lots of favorite English teachers and I saw one the other day, Mrs. Graves (9th and 10th grade.) I also liked Mrs. Marchman. Oh! Oh! I would love to see Mrs. Barnes, our newspaper teacher and Mrs. Keane, the yearbook advisor from Jr. High. If I won $100 million, I'd give more than a tenth of it to my church, then spend the rest on starting a ministry, family and my favorite charities. Yes, I lived in a dorm but I don't want to think or write about it. To be truly happy, I would be relaxing on a lake spending time with my husband and dogs. But happiness (on earth at least) is fleeting. My current age is 46. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old and boring. I was so completely surprised to feel "young" at this age.. Well you know my story about work (or not working.) I worked a good 20 years in TV and I've "been there, done that." No regrets than I don't do that anymore. What happened to my first crush? No idea. He was in my first grade class in Breaux Bridge, LA. My best friend would tell you I'm deep and thoughtful, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet. without much to say. I don't dress like I did 10 or 20 years ago, but I can wear the jeans I wore in high school (though they were actually too big last time I tried them on.) My style now is really classic and simple. No big florals, lace, bows and stuff. Sigrid Olsen was my favorite designer until the line was closed. I haven't picked a new favorite designer yet. What's the weirdest job I ever had? I worked for "The Picture Man" in college, taking pictures of fraternity and sorority parties. Want to find out what it's like to be the only sober person at one of these parties? Then do that job. I share my home with a huband, a dog and a cat, which I find perfectly cozy. Trophies on the mantle? I did get nominated for an Emmy once. I think my favorite "prize" though is my first t-shirt for running the Peachtree Road Race. I now have three. I get one do-over, what would I do differently? I'd say "yes" when I was invited to the Baptist Student Union at UGA. If I had been invited a second time, I was ready to go, but I never got a second invitation. I would have avoided many painful mistakes if I had followed Christ earlier rather than later. Now I'm all about "giving second invitations." That person may just be waiting for you to ask again. In 10 years, I hope to be healthy and fit. I'm going to get there by working out most days of the week. My first friend from school was Cheryl David. I went to Breaux Bridge earlier this year, 2008, and asked about her. No one I asked knew her. What about me would surprise everyone at my high school reunion? That I'm a late-blooming "athlete." I didn't really get into exercise and get fit until I reached my 40's. My first "real" job after college was at WCOV-TV, where I got paid $180 a week to report the news. What I remember most about it is I was too naive to know what a terrible job it was. A childhood memory I'll never forget? Being the center of attention at my 6th birthday party then looking down to see ants crawling all over my legs and feet. My mother snatched me up and stood me up in the bathtub to rinse them off. Party over!
